Re: How to steam small amount of milk on Giotto?

Take off the steam tip and thread a thin piece of copper wire through the holes to reduce the amount of steam coming through. Tidy as is necessary. Put tip back on.

I routinely steam only enough milk for one mini-latte (90 ml cup and made with a doppio ristretto) with my commercial lever. The Izzo has levers for the steam too, so it is either off or on, there is no half way.

      Thanks Greg and lemoo,

Ill buy some temp tabs in that case.

I was going to leave the wire through the tip as a last resort, Greg. Is it intended just as a learning aid or do you use it yourself for small quantities of milk?

I got a much better result this morning so Ill keep persisting. Thanks to all for your help.

I put the wire in after two or three goes with full pressure sprayed milk all over the kitchen. It hasnt come out, so I use it for all milk quantities. Because I only make doubles (the single is put away--somewhere :-/) I never steam more than 150 ml at once. This fills my big mugs. As I said, my normal steam is 50 ml or so, just enough to top up a 90 ml cup that already has 25 ml of ristretto in it.

This is also not the first machine Ive treated like this. I do enjoy having more than 5 or 6 seconds to steam the milk--the wire pushes the time up to close to 10 seconds!

I wound the wire pretty tight and then tapped the bottom of the tip with a bit of wood to flatten it against the stainless, then pulled it finally tight inside the tip with a pair of thin-nose pliers. Its invisible unless you get below and look up, and the whole nozzle still wipes clean easily.
