That is a good idea! Did you try locking the LM portafilter into that group? I realize the handle would be at a different angle, but I am curious.

I also received the Reg Barber tamper today with the specified 58.35mm diameter. It fits the L-I PF basket very well.

I didn't like the cheap look of the QM portafilter from the first time that I saw it. I hated the balance (or lack of balance) of one in my hand too. So I had a portafilter removed from its handle and had it machined to become bottomless. I then threaded a La Marzocco handle there in the other handle's place.

It is now a balanced device that exudes quality.

This point-of-contact with an espresso machine is important to me. The feel and balance now puts me more in touch with the machine. It feels like I am driving a much nicer machine than when I first got it.

The LM portafilter is a different breed altogether to the QM one....it won't even look like locating.

      P.S. nice looking tamper there

          Hi all

I'd love a 58mm PF lever machine. This thread, and the other thread "Name that machine" have been interesting, and I'd be keen to find out if anyone from CS here in Aust gets one and what they think of it after a few months of experience with one. I have a Ponte Vessio Lusso and a La Pav. Europiccolo but I don't have a kitchen bench half a metre deep for a Londinium :-)

I should be getting one towards the end of January. Taking the plunge on it as it ticks all the boxes for me. When I get it I'll start posting up some pics and thoughts on it. I've already got the naked portafilter for it (shipped seperately as it was already in stock, along with a few other bitand bobs), now just got to wait for the machine to put it into! ;-)

Ash: Congratulations! I hope you don't encounter any Customs/Importing delays downunder.

Well the L-I showed up the day before Christmas. A very nice present indeed! The box was a bit beat up but the packaging done by Londinium was amazingly good. It looked like the box had been dropped onto a top corner and had gouges in the sides, and in fact arrived on its side. The machine came out perfect.

The vibe pump is not all that noisy, about the same level of noise as my GS/3's rotary pump, just a different noise.

The shots were good from the start. On the third try with the grinder I had it correct and the 4th shot was perfect.

It steams FAST!!! My GS/3 steams about with the same intensity but because it has a separate steam boiler it can do that all day long. The L-I will keep you in foamy drinks with very little recovery time. I can't knock out the old puck, weigh, grind, tamp a new shot before it has recovered.

I am really looking forward to the silent running mode and not refilling a tank, although the tank option certainly has it's place.

                The Christmas present!

Nothing wrong with the Bezzera Strega Mike
You are already familiar with the brands build quality
I was hooked from the first trials - however I had to save up to get one, I now own a Strega and loving the whole lever experience

                        Dickey:

The machine works as advertised. No glitches and the silent running is fantastic. In the past I have always had machines with pumps and this eclipses them easily in its silence, simplicity, ease of maintenance.

The only thing that I would say could be a negative was that if you want a full mug of hot water, not an espresso demitasse cup, then it takes several light moves on the water wand toggle otherwise a geyser from the cup will spew forth. A light hand is needed there, other than that the steam wand is good. Just a gentle purge and you are good to go for steaming. The pull of the lever is easy and I am an out of shape, short(5'6") old guy with shrapnel in his shoulder.

The drip tray extends far enough forward to catch water and grounds(should one mess up) very well. Not like the Rocket I had that liked to shower the bench top.

The warm up time is quick. 12 minutes might be a bit longer than the actual time since I am seeing about 10 minutes.

I ran mine with the tank hooked up for a couple of days to test it to make sure it worked properly; it did. So now the tank and pump are removed and it is plumbed in to home filtered/softened water system for silent running.

The photo of the double shot is the very first pull on the machine, and for being a first attempt I must say that I was impressed. Naturally a bit more tweaking of grind and dose is required but that is not bad. It was a 15g dose of a single origin .

                        Cheers!

Seriously thinking about one of these... I would be the first in Perth though. I must say Reiss is one helpful guy, a real pleasure to deal with. Need to push myself and just do it by the looks of the reviews.

The machine is pretty BLrdFX !

                              Thanks Brian13!

If you order one do you need the 220v model because of the line voltage in Perth? I think that would be an added plus for the machine because the boiler would have a very fast recovery time. As it is in the USA the 110v for from zero to full temp/pressure in about 12 minutes, but the 220v model might be a bit quicker!

                              Enjoy it

                                Yep,

It would be the 220v. So I would imagine the heat up would be slightly faster.

I am currently setting up a new roastery, so I come home and want to also have new things. My wife doesn't like this...
