Doubtful. Where machines are behind a PLV, the effect of hammer would be minimal

    • That's a puck from last night, then 1 good one this morning, followed by another that looked like this one again - each as similar in technique as I could possibly make them.

      • Is the channeling occurring in roughly the same part of the puck, or is it random?

        • Hi,
Looking at the photo (and it may be the image), it looks quite a coarse grind? You could try fining up and whisk it as I do.Nothing to lose
          Cheers

          • The channeling is fairly random, but usually more towards the middle. I have had a few spots on the sides though.
The flow rate seems about right, but I'll fine it up further and see.

Look what Santa brought me, thanks to Chris from Talk Coffee, check out the quake proof packaging [emoji1].

I didn't choose Izzo Alex Leva, it chose me, though I am yet convince my dearest that

              • Glad it arrived in the same # of pieces that left us. Nevertheless, they've had a pretty good go at that one as well.

I hope you enjoy the new kit Bazooka! Welcome to the leva club...

                • Thanks Chris, I can tell plenty of thoughts and care put in packaging and preparing it for freight journey.

I need to wait a bit longer as it needs to accompany me on my overseas relocation. I will build a wooden box as additional protection for the long journey. Fingers crossed

                  • OK, I'm back! Thankfully I've pulled 4 perfect shots in a row today. Thanks to all the suggestions, you were all pretty spot on. I went back to the naked PF, ground finer (past the point I thought the machine would choke) and put in just under level coffee in the basket - about 1/2 to 1gm less than before.
I think what has happened is that the double spout had allowed my baseline settings to drift over time, so when I thought I was adjusting sufficiently to compensate for variations, I was working from the wrong base.
Had my first ristretto for a couple of months

                    • Hi Stickleback,
                      Excellent news!
I always believe in going finer and then working backwards and I think that you can't beat a naked to fine-tune your dose
                      Cheers

And not just the Izzo, by the looks of the 'other' box.

                        Grinder perhaps? :-D (It's ok we won't tell!! )

Post pics when you finally get it set up!

Great news stickleback. I always use the naked unless required to make a couple of weak coffees for guests. Keeps your technique honest and doesn't allow you to drift. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

                            Hi Chokkidog,

Yes, your keen eyes spotted the piece de resistance, it's a compak E10 OD.

I am glad the box sits taller than than Izzo Alex Leva. My dearest hasn't seen it out of the box yet, probably it's best to wait till we arrive at our overseas destination where return postage no longer makes sense.

In my mind I need a bigger grinder to balance the height of a lever machine, it makes perfect sense to me. I did opt for a shorter hopper as a compromise [emoji12]

Yes I will definitely share pics soon , watch this space

                            • I had my lever machine and grinder professionally packaged and crated to go from Melbourne to Sydney. It survived the most incompetent transport company I have ever seen.

Total cost was in the order of $300 but should have been a bit less as it was mistakenly made from export grade timber.

Second photo is at the receivers end.

                              • Nice work mcoccia

We have crate skeletons as well for those who would like their machines shipped in one. The gotcha is that freight is already $$$ in Aus and most don't want to pay anything letalone the extra $35 we pay for them.
