The ACS EVO uses basically the same group.
The mob over at Coffeetime have been using a stainless steel GU10 downlight retainer ring to replace the standard C-clip.

I wouldn't accept / ignore that.
Assuming this is a 58mm E61 'D' section style (hard) rubber seal...yes there's many styles.
But...they come in 8mm (most OEM use this) or 8.5mm and some Techies access a 9mm cross section. Also further there are 'Spacer' gaskets - Mechnaics style gasket paper that run at around 0.5mm thickness. That can be used as spacers.
Id remove what you installed and check its measurment against the OEM seal you prev removed.
Id suggest one of the exc sponsors such as Antony at CasaEsp will be able to advise you from there own experience... what you have?, ...what you needed?, ....and where to go from here ? !!!

PS -Oh n excellent pour above S_c
PSS- embarrasingly just looked /|\ up above further ....Oh dear dont leave your next GH seal to the same age. FWIW I often have found when using sau a chux and a t/s handle to wipe the seal face you can often get some coffee oils/ grnds still on the seal Even after jiggling during a backflush, using a hard bristle brush to clean. And my last Gh seal lasted around 5yrs and I only replaced cause enoughs enough!
*Why not Try a silicon type seal if you havent.Last edited by EspressoAdventurer; 26 November 2022, 01:13 PM.

While i a spamming this topic, what is the latest thinking on the C-Clip that retains the shower screen. When i got my machine it had a iron (or carbon steel) C-clip.
I replaced the Stock c-clip with a stainless steel one when i first got the machine, but its never been quite as good fit as the original iron c-clip. I always suspect a tednancy for channeling around where the C-clip joins.
Do the new Alex still come with an iron or carbon steel) c-clip? Is there any ill effect to the espresso? (Thinking Rust and metallic taints)

Wow bargains…
on another note i went to change my group seal (embarrassingly its been a good 3 years) and the old one is stuck solid!. A few pieces have chipped off and i just can’t seem to move it at all - even with a screw driver!. IT seems like it’s bonded with the Brass. Does anyone have any tips for scraping the old seal out so i. Can put the new one in?

If I didn't have a black Leva on the way I would have been all over that Nero one, it is stunning. That price is amazing. Can't see them lasting long.

Sink Cut, I have only had mine two years so can't offer longevity advice but what may be helpful is there is a video somewhere in this thread possibly, or maybe HB, which was uploaded by previous sponsor Talk Coffee showing how to service. it is quite long but very good.
There is also a guy on HB with a well used Pompei (one where the loctite like material on the piston has already been broken) and he posts videos of changing a piston seal in two minutes! I kid you not.

Thanks Dr DAVe - that does sound better than packing up and driving the machine around…. Im happy to get my hands dirty too… i just thought changing the piston seals were a bit tricky - but maybe not.
I imagined lying the machine on its back and trying to undo the piston…. Good to know that you just pull it out from the top. Do you then need a special tool to undo the piston? And is it hard to get it back in to do up the bolts when you are finished?

Hi David,
I have had my machine for about the same time. As to servicing it - interesting question. Im in the regular servicing before it goes wrong camp. I have a friend who never services any of his equipment until it doesn't work! He laughs at me spending money on preventative maintenance. Didn't work out for him last time he bought his chainsaw round to cut some trees and spent half the day trying to find filters/plugs etc when it wouldn't run
I service my machine every two years. I undo the 4 bolts and remove the handle/springs/piston complex from the top and change the teflon ring and 2 rubber gaskets
Mine still runs as well as the day I bought it
Cheers
Dave
