Johnthepom, my apologies. That is one of the problems when looking at a forum on a 5" phone screen! I can assure you that no disrespect was intended.
Hated is a strong word, perhaps disliked is better. I'm not going to name names, as I guess it's only my opinion/speculation on what I have seen others write on the internet.

idensie...How about a quick edit?? johnthepom might have a whinge!Originally posted by idensie View Post+2
I have a M4D (I agree with johntheporn0 that they look better than the Mazzer) it is paired up with a Londinium LI lever, loved by many, hated by others!
Who hates the L1?

very nice buget - you're going to have almost too many options to choose from mate and most of which will serve you very well.
i guess the biggest choice here is grinder first of all. then you'll know what kind of $$ to spend on the machine.
personal preference for grinders is still a mazzer - especially when your budget is very able to accommodate for one. if you're not going for a kony you might as well head for mini/super jolly territory. (flat vs conical) macaps are still a great choice from reviews, i just haven't used one myself. they have been proven over time, have many on the market meaning parts are pretty easy to find and you might even snag one for a bargain from cafes closing down/other csers (just beware cracked hoppers in poorly packaged boxes).
if you feel like you want a specific machine and want to upgrade the grinder later i'd suggest a compak. they aren't that much cheaper though.
a dual boiler will mean not much to upgrade to (next up would be a vevisius/gs3/speedster which are in silly money and servicing territory) but as chris said, might be tricky considering your location and might blow the budget again...
i personally only shy away from hx's due to having to need to temp surf your way to the shot.

Hello,
Exciting journey ahead for you. :-)
I was recently in the same postition as yourself.
Just purchased the Rocket Evoluzione, highly highly highly RECOMMEND. It is an exceptional machine. Have you considered the Rocket range.
I also drink 2 coffees a day & 2 for my wife, performing beyond my expectation.
Reason for the Rocket Evo V2, is a commercial rotary pump, plumpable (Although currently running off internal tank) lever operated, commercial E61 Group head and the most attractive & sexy stainless asthetics. Truly gorgeous.
In regards to Grinders, learn from my mistakes of continual upgrading - Go straight to the Mazzers. Take a look at the Mazzer Mini Electric...Both machine and grinder perfect for a $4k budget....I paid $3k spot on for Rocket and looking at Mazzer for $990 thereabouts.
I am selling a Compak K3 Touch in polished (very little use, about 4 months use) for about $480 if interested. Paid over $700 from Jetblack.
Message me if you want any other feedback or recommendations. Hope these suggestions help.
All I can truly suggest is to avoid future needs to upgrade invest first time in good quality gear.
Cheers

Hi Longrass,
My recommendation is that whatever you do, it would be a really good idea to keep things simple as you're pretty remote.
The lever machines would definitely be good- or perhaps a simple heat exchange (HX) machine. I'd be inclined to shy away from the more complex dual boiler machines if I was you as there is more in them and as a result more bits which may fail in time.
You're welcome to call for a chat if I can offer any advice.
Cheers
Chris

It'd be a fine choice, blow your mind and your budget!
Alex Leva + grinder = circa $5800 + freight + plumbing in.

Have just spent an hour reading up on the Izzo Alex Leva... Very interesting aesthetic wise, on top of the before mentioned service benefits

You should consider a lever if you're wanting to minimise servicing requirements.

Like I said .... all these machines are on a par quality wise. The Mondiale had a bit of a component overhaul a couple of years ago
so any reviews older than 2012 are irrelevant. They are excellent and stylish machines.
For what reason did I suggest it? Other than the fact that I have owned two.........
To quote your first post :"Looks wise... I would like to make the machine a feature in the area, so prefarably something big and shiny"
The Mondiale has a design point of difference to most other machines. The Mondiale is based on segmented discs, while most other
machines have a linear and upright design. Did you look at any of them?
The Macap? Have you seen all the positive comments about it? Use the CS search bar. What are the credentials of the reviewers whom you have read?
This is the internet.
I have owned two Macaps one a doser the other the 'D'. Bit of a broken record as I've mentioned my experience several times on various
grinder threads. Very well regarded grinder......very well. If my grinder budget was only $1200 I would still have one. Hands down. Period.
Basing a decision such as this on nameless people who have a vested interest in bagging a particular item, or who have an axe to grind, or want to whinge about
something they don't have sufficient technique to use, will divert you from the the truth.
And to be honest.... you have been a member for circa two years ..... plenty of material has been written in that time; if you have been
able to follow the forum. Truckloads.

To be honest, I've been looking at the VBM brand. For what reason do you suggest the Mondiale? Simply looks or is the machine better quality wise over the others?Originally posted by chokkidog View PostLong time for your first post....;-) so welcome to posting!!
Plenty to choose from.
Grinder... Macap M4D
Machine? Aesthetics are a consideration, so Isomac Mondiale for something different ( see my avatar ) or
for something more linear.... Vibiemme, Giotto or Izzo.
For the Mondiale.... someone like Coffeeparts.
Check Talk Coffee website for grinder and latter three machines.
All above machines are of the highest quality.
With regard to the grinder, have googled it and seen there are quite a few negative reviews. What do you like about the machine that see's you giving it a plug?
Thanks for your suggestions!
