It was a labor of love. It's quite simple to get things done when you're intrinsically motivated.

I've been slowly getting to know my machine a doubleshot at a time. The pressure control on the strada mod will definitely take some finesse and muscle memory in order to reach some sort of repeatability. However, the extractions I've been attaining as of late are adding a different dimension to my single origins. A very welcome addition indeed.

The timber choice (zebra wood) predated the powder coat color. I struggled for a couple weeks with the color choice since I haven't seen too many combinations with the zebra wood. White and zebra wood was a popular choice (as shown by examples by Slayer and Dan Specht himself), so naturally I went the other direction and chose black.

Finding a machine like that is a lifetime dream for many DIY espresso m/c enthusiasts.
It was definitely a lucky find. The Espresso machine restoration business here in Seattle is cutthroat. Even if I did have connections, I'm sure this machine would be reserved for their own stock. I'm glad this Mistral made it into my hands though. During the course of my rebuild, I've made several friends and connections I wouldn't have made without it. For example, the engineer that built this machine was Bill Crossland himself. He contacted me and filled me in on the specifics of the build which was a one-off, hence the missing serial number. Bill even went as far as to fabricate a new boiler drain plug that I had stripped during reassembly and asked me to come by his home to pick it up the same day.

Experiences like above is what makes this build priceless for me. It will take something significant for me to part ways with this machine.
