Faema E91 overfilling

My Faema E91 Ambassador 3 group is overfilling. It's new to me and upon first plugging it in the boiler promptly filled via the pump. But the pump just keeps going and the safety valve squirts. Any thoughts? Is the probe on the top of the boiler a temp or level sensor? What controls water level?

Not sure if your particular machine but generally there is a level probe in the boiler. It could be scaled up, you could remove and clean.

You can also check if it's just the level probe by connecting the wire from the probe to the chassis (disconnect machine power) and that should stop the pump as the machine will think the boiler is full. Normal 240v danger warning etc apply.

No voltage to that probe and (obviously) grounding it makes no difference. As that wire disappears into the main loom it's tricky to trace it back to the next stage.

It would only be a very low voltage anyway, maybe 5V DC or a little more...
