I tried this idea, I think it has reduced the flow to what it used to be.. I have been playing around with the flow regulator, very sensitive.. I still think I will dial in the grind with the regulator 1 1/4 turns open, then once happy with the speed extraction, I can play around with the profiles etc.. Thanks.. Oh another thing what is the best online coffee beans you can purchase? Thank you everyone for your help, really appreciate it..

If you wind the flow control fully open you will be getting more water flow than the standard machine gives without it. I’d recommend 1 full turn to 1 1/4 turn open will be standard flow, you shouldn’t need to go higher than this. Just make sure that when it’s fully closed it shouldn’t produce any water flow at all. If it does, then it’s not fully closed

Thanks very much yes I will do this, fully out and fully in sorry? I can see the difference how quickly the tray fills up haha.. anyway I suspect this will change grind size, amounts etc.. Which is where I will go next, dial in the grind and then leave flow regulator fully open, I mean profiling will work only if the grind and extraction times are close when flow valve is fully open, am I right?

Well Matchie I may be right...I might be wrong..Happy to stand corrected ( Are you there Barry? )......
Matchie - Did you replace the complete 'Mushroom' unit on the top of the E61 Grouphead ?
Then screwed in the flow control unit?
Let me just for a moment assume so.
And if so the ECM mushroom will likely have had the 'Gicleur' or 'Jet' installed inline.
This is the inline flow control 'point' as delivered OEM.
With The flow control you now have you will likely have a different size Gicleur / Jet With a Needle Control accompanying it. So you now will likely have a different flow rate needle fully out and of course needle fully in.
Pls Post up further if you want to know further how it works.

Quick answer that you need to now is - Put a glass /scales under the showerscreen get a timer device and measure your flow at both fully out and fully in, and Id mark up points in between. Measure and record.
Then experiment with your shots from there.
ECM std flow rate is around 6-8g (mls) a second = around 200 / 240g per 30 seconds.
    * Std flow rate your now asking about maybe more than previous with std setup.
    Post up your results

The group mounted gauge will not show pressure unless making coffe or with blind filter. Under free flow, it will show zero . Have you tested with blind filter?
