  • Why a two group?

Thinking about either creating or buying a lever, contemplating whether it should be a one or two group. 90% of the time I make for a latte or espresso for one, but just feel 2 groups just look so darn good and ornamental quality is important. I've read a few times people (including Chris) describe their ultimate machine as a 2 group - is that due to the longer time levers take to produce back to back?

So by recovery here, you're saying after 2 minutes the grouphead has cooled back down for the next shot, is that right?

What sort of initial warm-up time do you find for espressos, with and without a dummy shot?

And what sort of time after the shot can you cleanly release the portafilter?

The main reason for a 2-Group Lever is high turnover in a party or group setting.
If you're likely to be in that situation now and again, then you'll appreciate the 2nd Group...

Why? This is why I'd have one in a flash... Perfect proportion....

^ That's what I'm talkin' about! Maybe the same force at work that makes photographs look better when the highlight isn't in the middle, rule of thirds type thing.

              Good questions.
Most of this is discussed in great detail here: Profitec lever displayed at World of Coffee - what do you know about it?
              Enjoy
Reading through the thread (thanks for the link), samuel suggested back to back shots only was an overheating issue after about 5 consecutive shots. Was your 2 minute by Scace here more about reaching stable group head temperature as opposed to just being cool enough?

At the moment for two drinks I split a triple so I've got both shots creamy for the steamed milk. Wondering if modern spring levers typically have enough stroke to extract a triple in one pull? Or if I go consecutive, is waiting for the flow to stop and PF pressure to dissipate more the bottleneck over group head recovery?

                Why a two group?

I was with Sam during his testing. 2 mins between consecutive shots was about right and shots could be pulled continuously as long as there was that 2 minute gap.

Seems like you need to have a play. If you're in VIC, you're welcome to visit my showroom.

A Pompeii 2-Group would be my choice...

                        Bosco bias.
                        Single group is sufficient.

They do look pretty schmick Mal.

We did a 2 group in white for a friend in Tas and a few in graphite as well. My "old" red 2 group now lives in a Brisbane office..

They're even nicer in the metal than in the pix...
