  • La Marzocco Linea 3 Group volumetric inconsistency

    Hey guys,

Ive programmed a button on the volumetrics but have been noticing different yields between each of the group heads. Measuring the volume of water straight from each group head sans portafilter has me recording +/- as much as 5ml difference.
Im getting different yields each time even on the same group head. Is this normal at line pressure, should I be packing a basket with our usual dose of coffee and be measuring? Hate wasting coffee.

Any help how to fix this?

    Thanks guys.

+/- 5mL out of what total volume?

Does it matter? I was under the assumption volumetrics dead accurate.
we are aiming for a 40ml yield. When no coffee is in the basket I've recorded as low as 70.5ml and as high as 76.9ml.
As of yet, I have not measured shots during service from volumetrics.

That'd be the first thing I'd be doing....

Without coffee in the basket, the water flow rate is probably higher than expected with more inertia than may otherwise be there. This could result in inconsistent 'run-on' of the flow-meter paddle, resulting in less than ideal output...

        Mal.

It may need some backpressure to measure correctly.

Are you running a filter? If so is the filter new?

            How old is the machine?
