Just get a Decent with proper capability. you’ve basically just spending more for shiny.
You should really only be doing pre infusion with flow control anyway. Because line pressure is irrelevant to pressure at the puck.
Dunno as I usually do fast flow pre infusion at 8ml per second, turn the water off and bloom the espresso shot until pressure at puck drops to 1.5 bar, then I pull the shot. So maybe that’s 4 bar? But holding it there is silly it’s not going to evenly wet your puck.,

Rocket R Nine One

I'm confused. I'm considering an R Nine One because of the profiling capability. My current machine is a Bezzera Duo DE with a magnificent mod adding an adjustable needle valve and switch giving me a "Slayer shot" long flow-controlled pre-infusion and also a ramp down at the end of the shot. This equates to an equivalent pre-infusion pressure of less than 0.5 bar. But if I plumb in an R Nine One then I can't profile the pressure to anything less than line pressure (being about 4 bar). This means the Rocket can't emulate a slayer shot if it's plumbed in and any profile targeting a pressure below 4 bar simply won't work. Am I missing something or is this the show-stopper for this machine?

That’s a nice looking finish - not too bright.
Rocket machines have the front panel integral to the frame yes?
im wondering if that means doing the group or front panel is a huge step up in labour vs sides, top and tray?
I’ve seen some beautiful mini images (the green florentine model Ben is selling in Perth is gorgeous as example) but the mini has more external realestate so I’m digging around looking for e61 etc that have been done.
I guess LM mini has become the canvas of choice for artistic bench pieces.
I like the look more than the r91 but I believe the profile recording will make the R9 a better daily driver.
im glad I was led into discussion about it as I had in my head that it was the r 60 with external module/embugerance.

Oh you mean watery pucks....?Originally posted by mgrobins View Postwhat’s with remarks I see on YouTube comments, forums etc about soupy pucks? Is that suggestive of how people pull there shots or a trademark of any profiling machine?
I s'pose you can lump those fake internetty truths into the same bunch as those who turn up at say Bathurst in a '89 Hyundai Excel expecting to 'Do a Lap of the Gods' and then walk up to Greg Murphy and hand his a..e back to him in a sling !
The barista controls such things.

I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these after considering an emp modded Linea mini vs the r91.
I love the mini look yet thought that recording profile would weigh in more for me over time as I admire my new machine less and just use it - particularly early mornings where I’ll not be inspired to manually control every shot.

I guess I’m considering those final few thoughts before I proceed
.
im interested in cosmetic mods folks have done too; coming from a rocket Giotto I’m intensely keen to create some change on my bench from shiny chrome bling ?.
this machine gets so little air time around here… why is that?

Related to this (and trying to keep R91 info in one thread); what is the maximum pressure the R91 can brew at? Could you replicate this leva shot using 12 bar or is 9 bar the maximum?Originally posted by Caffeinator View PostI tried a Scace on my Izzo leva and what it returned was preinfusion into a flat 12Bar for all but the last few ml of a full length extracton.
Looks like a great machine.

I've had mine since end of January, plumbed in since March. No issues at all, profiles can be set easily even if bit menu is a bit clunky. Love the long slow infusion and get some great espressos. I have double with breakfast and the strong latte later' Puck can be wet but not a problem. No regrets buying it!!

There would have to be 100 of them in Australia and the oldest are coming up on three years old. Overall they're hugely reliable and service is straightforward so long as you get water right, backwash them and have them serviced every couple of years. There isn't much to do.
If there were issues with them, you'd read it all over the place! The fact is that you don't.
Pucks- user controls that. Vibrating gauge? A handful left Milan (late 2020?) with pump PID parameters incorrectly set. It's easily fixed- 30 sec job which you can do yourself if you happen to experience the glitch.

FWIW, most think that the classic leva profile is preinfusion follewd by a 9 (or 12)Bar peak and into a gradual decline. Not so.

I am planning to buy r nine one, a bit worried from complexity of the machine, I have two questions, the vibration in pressure guage and wet pick after extraction?? Any complains?? And how about maintenance?? I called my local dealer and the batch he has was produced in April 2021. I am between r nine one and linea mini. In general how is r nine one?? I use maybe 2 espresso in the morning and one capuccino or flat white afternoon.

Mine's been brilliant and super stable. So far, only routine maintenance: group seals and routine seals to steam and hot water. I replaced the anti-vac valve as a while I was in as a precautionary measure. Other than that, rock solid. I gather that's the worldwide experience. They're an incredible machine. Not a single regret.
