Herzog thanks for your feedback and advice.
Pleased to see the R9 is well designed and built - as I expected knowing the quality of other Rocket products.
Thanks for confirming the R9 has met expectations from for performance and reliability.
Always good to get a real user perspective!
Sounds pretty much like an ultimate machine for those who have the knowledge to exploit its extensive capabilities.
And it costs a fair bit less than a GS3......whilst delivering quite a bit more.

Yeah I think it's fair to say the R91 is a 'modernised" version of the GS3. It does a few things that the GS3 can't, with the most important being that it can do both volumetric and manual paddle pulls. With the GS3, you have top choose one and buy that model.Originally posted by warmtone View Post
I anticipate the Rocket R Nine One is a superior machine in terms of contemporary design and reliability offering the ability to store and recall profiles.
In addition great build quality and a machine that provides a new level of brew extraction and consistency.
A couple of questions:
1. How useful have you found the profiling and associated storage functions?
2. Reliability - any major issues?
3. Did the machine meet your expectations for improving brew quality over say dual boiler PID controlled machines?
4. What improvements would you like to see if any?
5. Is the display tactile enough?
6. Would you buy again?
1. Really good. I use two main profiles - the stock profile A, and one of the others I have customised so it runs about 1 bar for around 12 seconds for a long preinfusion, then ramps up to 9 bar for the rest of the shot. The big thing of course is that the profiles are highly repeatable.
2. Not yet. It's a pretty solid machine built on Rocket's commercial production lines
3. Yes. The ability to do very long slow preinfusions allows a finer grind, which works very well with some beans.
4. Not sure.
5. Yeah no issues so far. I often use in in volumetric mode with a saved profile, so you're just tapping the double shot button rather like a commercial machine rather than using the paddle. Even half asleep in the morning, it's pretty foolproof.
6. Yes. At the moment there's not many other options that have all of the main features: saturated group, save/repeat profiles, manual mode, volumetric mode, massive steam.

That's a very kind offer which I gratefully accepts!

I'm in Melbourne warmtone. Post lockdown, you are welcome to come play with mine.

I have seen a couple of videos on the R Nine One and it does look like a superbly built machine.Originally posted by herzog View PostI have had one for about 2 years now, what would you like to know?
I am currently using an Izzo Alex Duetto iv which has served me well but occasionally I get interested in an upgrade with pressure profiling options.
The GS3 has a lot of Italian romantic appeal but wonder about the cost of long term ownership.

Has anyone purchased the Rocket R9 One?
I would be interested in feedback on performance re usability and pressure profiling.

Just as a follow up: the machine is operating correctly. The user, not so much.
I hadn't been allowing for the time lag between moving the potentiometer and the pressure change registering on the screen.
A tip for those playing along at home: listen to the pitch of the servomotor.

Most likely look to the potentiometer as the source of the problem

Yes- it's native. Sounds like yours needs looking at.

Thanks for that. Is there a specific setting that allows the paddle to reduce the pressure as well as increase it?

You should be able to do whatever you want. You may have a machine which is not operating normally.Originally posted by Lyrebird View PostI get to play with one of these every so often and have been trying to make it do various profiles with limited success.
I haven't been able to make it do the classic lever profile (preinfusion, ramp to full pressure, slowly reduce pressure to hold flow rate more or less constant). When I try it does two things: it jumps pressure in discrete steps of about 1 bar and when I try to back off the pressure for the downward slope it just stops.
I've read the manual but it was no halp. Can anybody enlighten me as to whether I am asking the machine to do more than it can or am I doing something wrong?
FWIW, most think that the classic leva profile is preinfusion follewd by a 9 (or 12)Bar peak and into a gradual decline. Not so.
I tried a Scace on my Izzo leva and what it returned was preinfusion into a flat 12Bar for all but the last few ml of a full length extracton.

Digging up an old thread, can't see another dedicated R Nine One thread. I'd be grateful if someone could measure the depth of the R Nine One from its rearmost point to the front of the front foot (essentially if you pushed it up against the rear wall, what's the distance from the wall to the front of the front feet?). I have the overall depth of 505mm, I'm just trying to judge how this will sit front-to-back on the countertop.
Thanks
