Caffinator you say minimalist, but how many R's are they up to in the design now? Tbh other than 'no pid on the front' im really not seeing anything that counts as minimalist. The giant R on the steam wand cannot be unseen.

The PID on profitec (for example) tells you what the boilers are doing, when theyre up to temp, when the unit has gone into eco mode, when it needs to be cleaned, and of course the shot timer.

Im really not in love with separated bits tacked onto the side like their controller, and i think having a display that can do all of the above is very useful. It's definitly not intrusive, and looks far less out of place than the circle screen of the R58 which really just looks like it was put in at a late stage to meet a demand rather than a proper design element

I dont know if rocket invented the silver box with an e61 on the front, but itd be difficult for me to research either way.

Rocket's philosophy is about minimalist. I'd bet that they're assuming that the controller will spend much of its life in the top draw in precisely the same way as most of them do now. Plenty think they need dual boiler PID and then just leave them set at factory settings. In that sense, it keeps crap off the machine.

I'd doubt that you will ever see a PID controller cut into the front panel of one of their e-61 machines and for mine, that's a good thing and a point of difference.

I'm ok with the legs. At least it's not yet another square box. When you get LaPavoni, Isomac, Profitec and other brands copying or blatantly plagiarising on the form factor, they must have done something right.

I just cant get past that external controller.
I dont understand how they can simultaneously say 'we're all about style' then have some clumsy cable connected interface.
The ECM/profitec setup is far cleaner looking, and they didnt need to put a tiny circular screen on it to show the shot timer that still can't do anything else...
i can forgive the legs but its pretty ironic that the brand that targets form over function comes out with some pretty garish forms

The R Nine One remains the one Rocket machine I'd be purchasing. That purchase is pending a lottery win ?

those feet are horrible...first thing i would change and i do wish they would just to the controller wifi.
I never had an issue with the steam on my r58

Could be right Caffeinator re steam, I meant more that some of the updated dual boilers are running 2 bar for the steam boiler like the Profitec Pro V2 (not that I have used one). So assuming the mechanical connections and boiler are up to it they could just increase the PID range on the steam boiler and allow you to run more pressure. I tried both steam tips on the R58 and just didn't seem to swirl the milk as nicely as on my Rocket Giotto. The Giotto is running about 1.2 bar with a similar sized boiler (1.8l I think but I usually steam while running my shot) but it may be just being used to the steaming style of the Giotto which I have had for 8 years.

The R58 is hands down the nicest machine I have ever used but with a case of upgradeitis I sold it onto another coffee nut.

I think the issue is more at the steam tip than boiler pressure or volume. A slight drill out will solve it I'd reckon

Not a fan of the legs, otherwise it has a nice chunky robot like look.

It would be nice if they can embed some new features in the PID or brainbox, the R58 is a lovely machine to use but getting a bit long in the tooth with the newer machines coming out.'

The other thing that would be nice would be higher steam pressure. I have been using an R58 for a month or two and at max PID temp the pressure is at 1.5 bar and to be honest I get better steam pressure my Rocket Giotto.

    Rocket Espresso R Cinquantotto (58)

Photos of the new Rocket R Cinquantotto have emerged.

It has gained revised sides with a new R cup guard integrated into the side panels and a new set of knock knees- different, but I am unsure about them. Certainly unique though.

New PID controller said to be USB which I think has auto on/off plus other PID functions. I wonder if there will be preinfusion control and other new tweakability?

Some EU sites have it listed on a stainless chassis like the R60V was, but nothing I could find on Australian spec. yet.

Overall, it's looking like a nice upgrade to the R58 V2 which seems to be pretty much sold out in Australia. Apparently it's a couple of months away.
