Hi john,
The seller did tell me it wasn’t included. It wasn’t ideal but it was reflected in the sale price.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice. To be honest I wasn’t aware that tweaking the temp would make significant differences in the cup. I do have the option to buy a controller and based on this advice I should.
I paid about 50% of the full price.
Is there a website where I can learnt more temperature adjustments for various roast types?
Jetbkack espresso advised that they can check the boiler temp during a service.
thanks

Hope you got it cheap. You bought about 85% of a machine.Originally posted by Deise View PostHi all,
I purchased a second hand R58 V2 that unfortunately did not come with the external PID controller. I was wondering if it is worth spending the money buying a new one ? ($280 for the controller and cable)
Why buy an R58 then?? THE reason you buy a dual boiler machine is for the ability to tweak temperature to suit the roast level you use. This can deliver substantial differences in the cup.I don’t envisage that I will need to regularly change the temperature. Perhaps I could just get it checked when I get the machine serviced?
The only way to adjust temp and switch to plumb-in mode is via the controller. Techs won't routinely have one unless they just so happen to have another R58V2 with a controller on their bench at the same time.
Don't call us Aldo! (except for the bloke named Aldo)Aldo is the R58 V3 controller compatible with the V2? Is the cable a standard cable that could be purchased cheaply elsewhere rather than rocket?
thanks

Nope. The hardware and architecture is different. You want a Cinquantotto, you buy one.

I never used mine, apart from when i switched it from internal tank to plumbed in.
In saying that though, did the seller tell you it wasnt included? I'd want it even if i was to only use it a couple of times.
