  • Profitec Pro700 boiler temps

Hi everyone! I’ve had the pro 700 for about 3 months now and noticed that the boiler temperature drops pretty quickly during brewing. It drops by about 4 degrees in around 40 secs? Was wondering if this is normal?
Appreciate any advice from the pros on here

Are you talking about the steam boiler? No, it's not unusual for the temp to quickly drop several degrees during steaming . On my Pro 600, it drops from 133 to 127 degrees in the first 10 seconds but usually stays t, around here until steaming is completed.
    Are you experiencing a problem?

Hi Flynnaus, thanks for the quick reply It’s actually the brew boiler I was worried about cause I’m trying to work out if it’s user error when trying to dial in :P
Considering all the talk about brew temperatures I’ve come across I thought that 4 deg drop might be making a noticeable difference to taste. Sorry newbie here so might just be paranoid over something that’s not unusual!

A drop of 4 degrees in the brew boiler temperature during brewing on the Pro 700 is OK. Keep in mind that the brew water goes into the E61 group head where more heat transfer occurs before the water hits your coffee. A similar thing happens in single boilers with PIDs. The PID can drop by 10 degrees or more as the shot runs but if you put a Scace on the group head to measure the brew water temperature as it exits the group head you'll find that the brew water is much more stable than the boiler temp implies.

Thanks Charlie, that definitely makes sense. At least I know the machine’s ok now. Gonna have to burn through more beans trying to get it right now 😅

That's why I asked if you are experiencing any problems. If the shots taste good, then no problem. What brew boiler temperature is your pid set to?
I don't watch the brew boiler temp but a 4 degree drop in 40 seconds doesn't sound like a problem.
        Let taste be your guide.

Yep coffee aint’ tasting too good hence looking to see if it’s got anything to do with the brewing temperature. Tried brewing between 93-95 deg for a med-dark roast. Was lacking body and I’ve been trying lots of timings/grind size but no success yet. Looks like I need to get more beans & keep trying with the dialing in 😅

          In order of importance:
          1. technique (being able to dial in a grinder; seeing the issues and knowing how to rectify them etc)
          2. beans
          3. grinder
          4. machine

Start at the top and work your way down!

Thanks Charlie! At least I got #4 in the clear now thanks to you guys There are just so many variables to work with.. even grinding the beans in the morning vs afternoon produces a different result! Hahha.. will have to keep working to get the basics consistent.. thanks again for the advice
