  • Advice wanted on secondhand dual machine

    Hi,

A friend has asked me if I think this is a good deal. They are after a machine for their retail shop, so it won't be making coffees all day, but they still want to make a couple coffees quickly when needed for customers.

I'm not sure of the exact model, but I think it is an Expobar megacrem mini ( or compact). Also can't find another picture like it on the net. So I suspect it is an older model.
Don't know full history, but it hasn't seen much work over the last few years. Being at a school, used at occasional events only.

Asking $1500. I think it is a good deal. Not many dual head machines in this price bracket.

Can anyone offer any advice ? thoughts ?

    Thank you.

That's a reasonable price for a 2G compact, as long is it working ok. Not really suitable for a cafe but for small numbers of coffees throughout the day its all you would likely need.

Looks like an Expobar Elegance 2 Group Compact. The manufacture date should be on the compliance plate. If it is newish and been regularly serviced and run on good water, then IMO it's a reasonable asking price. If it's older and been abused, then maybe not so much. If you take the shower screens off and have a look at the "bell" preinfusion chambers, it might give you an indication of how well it's been treated (these get clogged with grounds over time). Have a look inside and check for leaks (powered off), especially around boiler, boiler fittings and the pump. The black plastic trims are notorious for having lugs break, so be careful with them.

It is easier to get a two group machine at a reasonable price than a single group as the two group are full commercial machines with 6 Litre boilers.

Scale is a big issue with second hand machines so that needs to be checked.

Thanks all for the replies and advice. They ended up leaving it and finding something else. The history was a bit sketchy and there was some talk it might have been used much more than originally thought.
