      PS unless you want to double your budget you may want to use a word other than "Decent" to describe what you are after https://decentespresso.com/

      Some quotes would help and I am sure the vendors would have some good suggestions, I think if you are 4K including a grinder a good brand HX E61 (or a Lelit Elizabeth) machine would be a good fit, here are a couple of ideas;

      ECM Mechanika Slim
      Rocket Appartamento
      Bezzera BZ10
      Lelit Elizabeth V3

      Add a solid grinder with timed dosing (the Mazzer is built like a tank, so would prob hold up better in an office);

      Eureka Mignon/Specialita
      Mazzer Mini Electronic
      Compak E5 OD

      Some food for thought there.

      Why don't you ask your staff to choose the machine and grinder at your price point?
      They must have some ideas already if they're true "coffee snobs".

        If they're not true "coffee snobs" and you want something "not too complicated" ( sacrilege I know) Breville the Oracle Touch would come in under your budget.

      I would go for the ECM Technika V, Rotary pump and tank but can be plumbed in. It is a PID HX machine.

      I have a Wega Mini Nova Classic with a Rotary Pump but you can't get the rotary pump model now.

      Yes, I like rotary pumps, I like HX machines, I like simple and robust

      ECM machines are very well finished and everyone likes them.

      If you want cheaper but smaller with a vibe pump and tank the the Bezzera BZ-10 is great. My brother has one and loves it.

        I don't think an e61 machine would be great for office use unless it's left on, as it needs a warm up period. Like someone else mentioned. The breville Oracle might be a more suitable option for turning it on and off and having it ready fairly quickly. Also being fairly semi-automatic. I guess it comes down to how good your co-workers are with a machine

          I don't think that the warm up period for an E61 is an issue. If you want just put it on a timed socket so it comes on in the morning. It takes 20 - 30 minutes to heat up.

          The OP did say a small office of coffee snobs so we can assume that they don't want a Braun automatic machine with a grinder built-in...

          I hope so else this is the wrong forum to be asking!

          Hence my comment. The post was vague as to what they want from the machine. Whether warm up time, frothing milk etc etc is needed. I only suggested as if I had a coffee machine in my work, an e61 would be completely destroyed. Coffee Snobs can also be interpreted very differently between different snobs as well. I am leaving my comment as is, as it was a suggestion, the same as yours was also a suggestion. Thanks

        How many people in the office know how to use an espresso machine to make coffee and would use it?
        IF they're happy with pods out of sheer convenience (eww get away!!)
        The Breville nespresso creatista plus can be operated with total ease and requires no coffee making ability to make a decent coffee (for pods). If people are paying for their office coffee through a social fund or similar this would be an easier way of keeping the kitty where it should be.

        If they're "snobs" but want pods for ease and cleanliness and ease of payment if applicable (ie $2 a pod) while still operating an otherwise commercial style machine expobar G10 compact is a two group rotary that can be plumbed in and has a 6l boiler (probably need a big office to justify that kind of pod usage) the G10 is comes takes capsules or regular ground coffee via traditional portafilters. Positive of that beast is it's built to handle a commercial/ease of use environment.

        If the want ease of use but fresh ground coffee and can form an orderly que it would be hard to go past the Breville Oracle touch. Will Breville hold up to larger scale use and possible neglect in a workplace? Who knows!! For people who want a decent quality coffee with no fuss it's a pretty good option.

        If they're hardcore coffee snobs and crave an office barista station and the amount of people justify such a setup maybe look into something that can handle light commercial duties at the cheaper end. Would likely have to go north of the budget unless you're lucky to come across deals, demos or second hand but if you were my boss I'd be in your ear on a daily basis trying to convince you to get something like a 1 group rocket boxer or similar. It's past your 4k budget but we can justify it though because coffee!! There's plenty of other compact light commercial options as well some include grinders attached like expobar mega cream, nuova simonelli Appia and have one or 2 groups with operating on standard 10amp.

        As the price goes up the need for training of staff goes up and I'd certainly be stressing the importance of proper use and maintenance regardless of what you buy. Good luck in your purchase. I'm happy for you to buy one for my office as well ?.
