Good point EspressoAdventurer. The brass tee from supercheap had double barbs on all sides, and the grip on the silicon tube seems good. Also because this is a waste line venting straight to atmosphere, there's never any significant pressure in this line to worry about. What I did do, however, is wrap some self-fusing silicon tape around the tee and tubing - mainly to stop any noise of the brass tee rattling against the steel parts of the machine, but I guess it also helps keep the tubes in place over time.
I must admit the thought of using those little springy hose-clamps did cross my mind ... but ECM themselves don't seem to use them. For example the silicon waste line from my technika's OPV is slid on with no clamp or tie, and that outlet has just a single brass barb.

Is there any reason for this T-joint in the ECM synchronika to be plastic?

Rusty leave to you to assess the silicon tube 'grips' upon the barbs.
But it wont hurt to apply a small lightly tensioned zip tie to each of those 3 barbs.
A pro will always trim the zip tie's tail flush with the backedge of the 'grip'.
Pls dont cut the tails at an angle, leaving a small amount protruding out.
As the offending 'tips' can cause a very nasty cut to the back of hands etc.

I found one exactly the right size on the shelf at Supercheap Auto, for my technika. $10. While these are intended for car fuel lines, it's still brass and on the waste line anyway.

Nope , no reason for it to be plastic, replace with a brass one if you can source it. It's important to note they usually fail because regular maintenance hasn't been done (antivac valve on top of boiler leaking and causing the tee to perish) but you're right, it should be better material given the consequence of that tee leaking onto electrics...

Here is a link to a photo taken by someone else on their profitec. The t-section in question is to the left of the upper circle
a silicone hose comes from each the steam and coffee boiler. These connect to a t-joint which then runs a hose to the trip tray.
The plastic joint has perished and shattered in my less-than-2-year-old machine. I bought a replacement part, but I'm curious whether I can replace it with a brass or steel joint instead. It's a pretty generic component
