  • New La Marzocco GS3 MP manufacture date

I’ve just received my new La Marzocco GS3 MP. I’ve noticed that the manufacture date is almost a year old. It has a label that indicates it arrived to the Australian distributor in June 2021. My initial machine was damaged in transit and they sent a replacement before I even received the first one as it got rejected by the courier. I’m concerned I got a old machine or a returned machine or something.

I’m aware that there will be a lead time from manufacture to delivery, but if I come to sell this machine there is already an extra year on the clock already and I’ve just received it! Do I just suck this up. I bought this up with La Marzocco Australia and they will get back to me.

Would any other La Marzocco owners who bought a new machine like to share how old their machine was they received it?

I ordered direct from La Marzocco Australia.

    TIA.

I can't speak for La Marzocco or coffee machines in general, but I work in consumer electronics and a 6 month old product from manufacturing to customer seems perfectly reasonable. It takes us around 2-3 months from mass production until it hits our local warehouse, and then it wouldn't be uncommon to have product sitting around for a few months. If it goes to retail after that, it could be 1-6 months sitting on their shelves too!

Unless LM are all made-to-order, I don't see an issue.

PS - congrats on the new toy!

Have to agree, if manufacturing date was 6 months ago, by the time it landed here, made it to the distributor then onto the resellers, i dont see the issue either.
      Just enjoy your machine.

I’d push back; it can’t hurt to ask! Shouldn’t hurt too much on the back end if you sell as long as the model/ version is still in vogue, but is certainly won’t help either!

i just got one today. where is the manufacture date noted? let us know and i will check and get back to you so we get 2 data points at least. i got it from coffee parts and i reckon it might be pretty fresh as it was part of an order based on 2021 prices and it took a few weeks to get to me.

          but let's see ?

The date is on the small plaque to the left side panel at the bottom. I received mine yesterday.

Are you able to program the auto on/off time from the keypad? After reading and rereading the instructions, There is no option on my machine to do this. However it says it’s can be done in the user manual. I called La Marzocco and didn’t really get any help, other than use the app. I don’t want to use the app for various reasons. I’m really dreading speaking to anyone at La Marzocco, I usually get a passive aggressive woman who is working from home and doesn’t really know how to help other than email another person who will get back to you.

September 2021. Is that the AKG Grinder. Love the pressure gauge on top of group. ?

The grinder is the Lagom P64. September 2021 sounds about right. Mine is 6 months older than that. Mine came direct from La Marzocco Australia. I’m assuming that all Australian retailers must get their stock from La Marzocco Australia. No reason for them to keep older stock, unless the MP is not a popular model and stays on the shelf longer? I will let you know when I get an answer next week.

Push back on what reasons? We aren't buying milk and cheese here. Warranty is covered from purchase date.

EspressoAdventurer sums it’s up well below. Warranty is from the purchase date when you buy a car also, but if you ever want to I sell it down the line it’s the manufacturing plate that dictates the price, not the purchase date.

If you’re spending ~10k on a machine, I’d be looking to maintain as much of that value for as long as possible, or broker a deal to offset the loss with other pieces, accessories, servicing etc.

Dream set up regardless, Moffee! Nice one.

The grinder is amazing. I initially wanted the Weber EG1. But the price, performance ratio was not worth it. After reading through a lot of reviews, I came across the Lagom, it hit the sweet spot for price, performance, looks etc. they have a 3 month lead time for delivery. I found the James Hoffman grinder showdown videos useful. He compared the Lagom with a handful of world class grinders. The combination with the GS3 and the coffee is sublime.

Here’s the link for the grinder showdown.

Moffee is it possible to use a Weber Blind Shaker with the P64?

No idea about the Weber blind shaker fitting the P64. I grind into the basket and use a WDT and have no channeling issues.

I can’t see any reason to be concerned. These are very low volume products, and supply chains are slow at the moment. It’s not like they are bringing in thousands of them every month as if they were cheap TV sets

I think theres a few things going on here in parallel
                .
Nick Have good hard look at how Vehicle Manufacturer's / Dealers move s/seded stock. The unsuspecting nil idea new car owner carries all the risk with these sales for '2021 plate ' as the build plate date is The Key valuation criteria for the vehicle going forward when it is valued for resale.full stop. And no matter whhhhhat deal is offered That never usually equates to the loss $ at the other end.

                * BTW Has anyone here ever checked the production date on Tyres before purchase? They're experts at pushing out old stock.

In this case with a high end / ltd market that this machine pitches into I think the new owner has a very good case. But maybe he should have checked prior to purchase date and rec'd the plate detail as part of the purchase.
Yes of course ...very easy to say in hind site and I don't think that I would have been switched on to this either.

In the case of his first (real) machine never reached him, then I would be pushing very hard to receive a factual written statement on the prod date that was first shipped, prrrrior to raising this. Then assess, where you stand, Then go forward with the issue of a 1 yr old machine from they're.

Has he got much hope....yes, but up against what is a very hard nut / unresponsive man'facturer / self marketer that has created their own niche, I'd say dig in for a hard long fight.

As for using said 1 yr old machine whilst in the middle of this issue ......hmmm I wont comment, Because Id suggest that Mr. Italian Lion's rep may even read here .....often.

*Go for credits / freebie accessories against the reduced value that this machine will (may) bring 2nd hand into the future. Do some solid research as to the current value in the used market for 2, 3,4 yr old machines.

                GL

100%. Especially when the @home component is headed by a hard nut shoe salesman who couldn't drive the Linea mini he purchased.

For the GS3 owners on this thread, what made you choose it over other machines with profiling abilities like the Decent or Crem one pressure profiling machine? I’m looking at all three at the moment and leaning to the decent despite not liking to look and sound of it, but would love to hear from those who made the leap into the GS3!

If you're looking at the Crem, you should add the VBM Domobar Super to your shortlist as well.

Haven’t heard of it, but will take a look, Thanks caffeinator! I’ve had my heart set on the Decent for a few months and planned to buy in Feb once work bonuses got paid out, but as I’ve went to hit the trigger I came across Decent’s huge markups for Aus customers. It’s about 30% more expensive to land in Aus than anywhere else! So that’s a deal breaker for me on principle. We could get one delivered to NZ, fly over and pick it up and holiday for a week for what you’ll save in the mark up.

Does you budget cover the Rocket R91 ?
                  You have heard of that...right?

There's also the Eagle One...uncertain atm if it really lives up to the pre release hype.
Also San Remo single grp version of the commercial multi grp Cafe Racer.
                  GL with it.
                  Pls report back your findings

had to use app for on and off time setting. it is a useful feature.

i always wanted to use a gs3 and in my experience manual control is not relevant so i figured control variables and get the AV.

i find profiling to be above my pay grade. at my level good coffee is about basics more than last few % point optimisation. i had walked the romantics path previously and results had not been good. i was trying to do too much in hindsight. buy the rights beans, roast them the right way and then use them at the right time with the precisely right grind and profile of extraction. so many skills involved and i was using nice single origin coffees and wasting them as i learnt (the worst was that honey like Yemen one 5 years ago - wasting that was like spitting in a church).
