Cool! Good to know it's still a happy relationship after a year.
The whole choke thing was just an offhand comment about the one shot I pulled where I ground too fine. I pulled the grinder out of storage and had to get it back to a good setting. I adjusted my grind after each if the first few shots...
Shot 1 - gusher
2 - gusher
3 - choke (too fine)
4 - getting closer
5 - wow! That tastes pretty good!!
Was only noting it because even though it took 2 minutes for the lever to return with the really fine grind, the shot still tasted ok. The gushers... not so much.

Hi PiccoloLatte. Congratulations on the Strega - beautiful and well built machine that is a pleasure to use. I'm happy to say that I have been a happy owner for a year after using a LP Europiccola Pro for about 10 years. I was wondering what your recipe has been and also what caused the choke, as I have never come across this. My favourite shots come from 16g of fairly fine grind and I can nail them pretty much every time.

No worries then. That was just my bracketing to get the grinder back to the right range.

Mainly cos of this "I got one shot that semi choked and went for 2+ minutes." but also all my Levers have needed a grind that was a LOT coarser than my E61 groups.

Thanks bud.
Why coarse though? Do you mean aim to run shots faster than usual? I've been going for 16g in and 32g out in 30 seconds.

Looks seriously gorgeous, top tip: grind coarse and make sure you puck prep is immaculate.

Bezzera Strega - Bewitching espresso
Howdy CS crew!
This little latte just picked up a Strega, and finally got to pour some coffee! There was a short delay after the shop sent the wrong portafilters, but once that was fixed I could get started.
First things first - does it fit under the cabinets? Unbox it... hmm, maybe... not sure .. carry it over to the bench... Yes!! Can still open the overhead cabinets with about 10mm to spare when the handle is at rest.
Definitely need more time to play with it, but got an acceptable shot after about 25 mins (and 200g of wasted beans). For some reason my old grinder was waaaayyyy out. Once I had it somewhat dialled, I downed one espresso and poured a small flat white.
Overall I'm liking the novelty of 'pulling' a shot, and the machine seems pretty forgiving. While adjusting the grinder I got one shot that semi choked and went for 2+ minutes. Even that was drinkable. Not great, but not terrible either.
Looking forward to many more!
If anyone has tips or tricks for taming this witch, feel free to throw em at me.
