Try The Coffee Machinist if you're near inner north....

Update: That was a weird water tank problem. It's still working will get the video of the noise next coffee.

Ok, so I tried to make coffee this morning and now it is not working at all. It's heated up, steam is working, hot water is working but no boiler fill and no water to the group head. It is completely silent so I guess something major is happening. Does anyone in Melbourne know a reasonable mobile repair person?

Welcome to the E98 club. The first rule of the E98 club is. . . . enjoy great coffee at home.

It certainly sounds like the usual suspect - the OPV. My old E98 S1 also developed a really annoying squeal when pulling a shot. It was intermittent at first, but then became almost constant. When I eventually went to fix the OPV, it turned out the problem was the three-way valve on the group head. The shading ring on the electrical coil had failed, allowing the solenoid valve to 'chatter' at the AC main frequency. Pretty easy to diagnose - just remove the electrical connector from the coil, turn the pump on, and see if the noise is gone. Replacing the coil solved my problem.

Standard 240V AC warning - Risk of potential harm, blah, big flash, blah, death, blah, no coffee, blah blah.

Agreed, a fair chance it is the OPV. The OPV is located just behind the metal panel behind the drip tray (well, it is on mine, anyway). To fix, all that may be required is dissassembly of the OPV, clean and lube, and reversing (or if really necessary, replacing) the little sealing plug inside. Parts cost is either zero or close to it. I understand you're not going to do it yourself, but I expect a repairer ought take less than 30 minutes of work to disassemble, clean and lube, reassemble, and reset the brew pressure correctly.

Can you upload a video to YouTube and post the link? Hard to diagnose just from that description, but it sounds like it could be a noisy OPV which means nothing is wrong mechanically it's just not pleasant. But could be something else so a video could help.

Faema e98 Compact S1 making noise

Hello all, this is my first post. I recently purchased a Faema compact and it is making a weird high-pitched sound when it extracts coffee or when backflushing. I have no skills at all to fix myself, just want to know if anyone knows what it is. Other than that everything is working perfectly.
Working...
