Thanks Robusto. No heat sink. There is not a heap of room in there but the kit comes with a bracket (I didn’t buy the kit) I can only assume with a particular location in mind.

Does it come with a heat sink? In any case best to mount it away heat in any place it will fit and the wiring can't come into contact with metal parts.
My machine had the element relay in the control box fail. Turns out this is a bit of a known issue as ECM sell an ad-on solid state relay that takes the load off the relay in the Gicar box. The newer Gicar boxes actually have pin provisions for this external relay.
My brother is an Instrument Maker so is very helpful in helping me repair my machine when needed. He has managed to source the SS Relay, but we are bit unsure on where the relay should be mounted.
If you buy the relay "kit" from a coffee parts place it comes with a bracket.
I'd love to see a pic of someone's mounted solid state relay to give me an idea on where t can go.
