  • Wide pressure variance after descale

    Hi guys,

I have an older Astoria/SanMarino Divina single group machine.
it’s not been maintained that well prior to my owning of the machine.
I’ve recently cleaned the machine with Cafetto Restore, and replaced the shower screen and brew head seal.

Prior to cleaning, extraction produced about 11 bar on the pressure gauge. Now extraction appears to be around 16 bar, but there seems to be less pressure at the brewhead,, sufficiently less that I’ve had to back my grind off to be far more coarse.

I assume there’s some dislodged scale somewhere? If so where would I dismantle and clean?

    any advice would be appreciated.

attached is a pic of the internals.

Going by the pump gauge your machine should now be passing the international space station. 9 bar at extraction and 4 at idle would be more desirable. Powder descaler can deposit chunks of scale in the head pathways. Try blowing out the pathways. Proprietary liquid cleaners will dissolve more. Also, often overlooked is scale build-up in the pump..
