Amberdale - the Criterion is still a good pub to enjoy a cleansing ale whilst enjoying the view over the river.
'Flamingos' has ceased operations (I think) . I used to have a bit to do with the Manager a decade ago when I was running the local Liquor Accord.
The main local 'nightclub' is now the 'Xtreme/Zodiac' and pretty much the only game in town.
These days my main volunteer involvement is with the CapCoast Liquor Accord so I don't know much about what is happening in Rocky at all.
Tompoland - that instrument of torture made me wince just to see it. I reckon it would be an effective instrument.
Ronin - Yes, this is a very different proposition to my Diadema Perfetta. I have realised what a good machine the Diadema was and how you learn to get the best out of a machine.
No - I feel no obligation to drink everything I make, although everything so far has been drinkable. I think I am starting to get it tuned-in. It is always more complicated when you are tuning-in a new grinder at the same time. A lot of variables!

Probably also worth looking at the Quamar Q50S grinder, similar price point and performance

Congratulations on the nice setup RockY
Should serve you well for decades.
Remember that every machine is different and has its own personality, like driving a different car. Same but different
Enjoy the process of learning it mate but my best advice is - if you have some play time with your new toys, you do NOT need to drink all the coffees, that can lead to a bad time lol

Excellent, the silicon gaskets really do have a nice feel to them.
I think they are a bit easier to remove as well.
The E61 shower and gasket is easy to remove, I do it once a week to clean using a teaspoon.
Some folks use plastic pushbike tyre levers.
Is Flamingo's still a thing at the Criterion?

I always welcome and appreciate well-intentioned advice Amberale. Thanks.
I have tried locking it in with both portafilters (and my set from the old machine) with empty baskets, both cold and hot.
I think you are right and it is just a case of a new Group seal that is going to take time to compress a bit.
You mentioned a silicone seal and that seems worth a try as at one cup a day it could take some time for the group seal to compress with wear.
Experience will probably demonstrate that the portafilter won't work it's way out and as usual I am focused on detail that others wouldn't even think significant. I was just curious to know if any other Mozzafiato owners had noticed this. Another very successful pour this morning - LB and a FW.

Have you done the 5cent test for headspace to make sure that it is not your dose that is making it hard to lock the portafilter?
Sorry if it is egg sucking advice.

Try locking the portafilter into the group once or twice without a basket in it.

Philly - It's very tight, so that the machine moves when you try to tighten it. Makes backflushing difficult and pretty messy.
Successful pour this morning. Took a while to set the grinder on a fine setting but the resulting pour was nice and the end result very good.
So, making some progress.

Is it tight fitting or easy to get into the group head but just feels loose?

Thanks Guys, the Grinder-setting thing is interesting. With my previous "Rocky" Grinder, you could almost make the burrs contact each other on the finest setting and I had a vision of destroying a new grinder by adjusting it whilst running. The other thing is that you would need three hands to do it! One to hold the portafilter against the 'contact spring', one to hold down the 'adjustment clip', and one to turn the 'adjustment ring'. There you go - stuff doesn't always work logically.
The point about the portafilter is that it doesn't fully "lock-in". It partially locks-in - giving a feeling that you can't let go of it in case it vibrates out during the pour. Thanks for the tip, Amberdale, I will source a couple of silicon Group seals.

Running the grinder while adjusting the grind setting is fairly standard advice (even if not always followed and), particularly when moving towards finer settings.

Congrats on the purchase. They’re beautiful machines and I’m sure you’ll be very happy.
The group handle thing is just a result of the gasket being new. It will wear in and start to sit right over time with use. It is not a problem at all as long as it locks in nicely.

Sorry to hear about your inverted arrival.
I only ever change grinder settings while the grinder is running.
Going coarser should be ok when off but going finer and you can wedge/compress coffee bean fragments between the burrs and lock up a grinder.
I recommend a Cafelat silicon group seal get a red (8mm) and a blue (8.5mm) and see which one works best with your machine.
Less than $30 delivered to RockVegas.
