I've used one of these for years
2CB-GW Replacement Water Filter, 5 Micron - Everpure
you can get them from CoffeeParts, a site sponsor, or Bombora. I have it hooked up to a tap so I can drink the water as well. My kids won't drink plain tap water now.
10 years with an e61 Hx and has never required descaling.

My understanding is that Melbourne water is very soft and most professionals I have spoke to say it is perfectly fine to just use filtered tap water.

I’m in Melbourne. I went with the BWT Professional Plus (0.5 micro) in-line system + BWT Bestmax Premium (magnesium ion exchange) hooked up existing pantry mixer tap for drinking water and feeding my Lelit Bianca’s tank. I will in the future swap out the Professional Plus with the BWT Fibron + scale filter to effectively mimic the BWT Ultro coffee water treatment system (used in comps). It could be overkill but wanted to protect my investment
. Do your own research for the right water treatment for your area.

Fridge Filters/Bombora will test your water for free.
You just need to send 2 samples.
They then recommend what, if any filtration required.
IIRC LM are very specific about their water requirements and how it affects your warranty.

A key difference is the use of stainless-steel boilers - incorrect water spec can lead to corrosion of those components which will cost $$

Hi Bleak. Welcome to Coffeesnobs.
I have been using Melbourne tap water in my machines for over 35 years. I've never had an issue.

Water for Espresso machine (LM Linea Mirco), Melbourne
Hey! I'm planning to purchase the LM Linea Mirco and the water topic wasn't something I planned to getting myself into!
Do I really need to use the specced water listed on the LM website for the machine? I've been using boiled tap water in Melbourne for my Gaggia Classic for more than 10 years and hasn't had any issues. I descale, service it and haven't had any issues with it at all.
I know I'm investing into a decent machine so I should look after it but I also want to make sure I'm not over-doing it; hope that makes sense.
