    Re: rotary comparison

My filter and pressure limiter sit under the house (save space), and then I just put another tap close to the coffee machine. I cant see why there is any problem with this.

      thanks guys
i was picturing having the water hose going thru the backsplash, out the external wall and then back in the wall to connect up to the cold water tap. i guess the hose can just be fed internally (duh). but then again, having the filter outside will save me some cupboard space in the kitchen. just worried about heat, sun, and excited possums.

What water filtration are you going to be using?

I have 2 single water filters on me at the moment and am thinking about running a dual filtration system by connecting the two up. But living in Melbourne getting a water supply with a hardness of about 20 mg/L I could probably get away with just a single filter for just sediment removal.

Still gotta think this one over.

          hey dave
just spoke with my mate (a plumber) who investigated cutting thru stone a while back and said definitely not for the faint hearted. prob better off having a stonemason do it as the risk of cracking the stone is fairly significant. so were gonna investigate the wall option and see what we can come up with. the main issue as i see it is the drainage, and the simplest solution (seeing that the machine will be right next to or very close to the sink) will be to run the drain hose along the benchtop and into the sink, will let u know (coz im sure youre all waiting with abated breath)

                      Re: rotary comparison

                      seems so easy

um i was making a little joke - you had asked for clarification of what outside my house meant - you then talked of your espresso bar being outside your house - i then quoted your previous post asking for clarification, with the concurrent request that you send some pics (both to clarify what YOU mean by outside your house and because id like to see your setup).

and no, im not explaining this again - if youre still lost, you can PM me and ill give you my mobile number and we can walk this through together nice and slow.....

                      now... where were we?

                        Re: rotary comparison

Good choice Aaron. I did the plumbing for my Spaz and water filter - the low pressure tubing is easy to poke through to where you need it and the elbow and tap fittings are easier than Meccano. I dont have the drip tray drained and I am not sure it is worth it - it only needs emptying once or twice per week and need a wash in the sink now and again. Since I put the water filter under the sink it was hardly any more expense to add a filtered water tap next to the main taps - just a small hole in the stainless sink, an extra t fitting and its in.

I have a solid metal tap as the first fitting off the cold water supply and when I go away I turn the whole lot off.

                        Have fun,

                        Chris

                          Re: rotary comparison

Oh, you dont understand! With my new machine, having a working drip tray is a GODSEND! Its so lovely to not have to worry about carrying a half-full or full drip tray to the sink and cleaning all that gunk out! Just run some water over it and wipe it down and you are DONE!

I think I like having the drip tray plumbed more than the water inlet!

                            Re: rotary comparison

yep I would do the drip tray.  I think if I didnt, I would have to empty it about 3 times a day.  But a lot of that waste is just because it is plumbed - you change the way you flush, clean etc when you dont have to empty it.  Also, no way to empty the boiler for mine if you arent drained.

                                Re: rotary comparison

If the horizontal run has you worried Id be wondering about mounting the machine on taller legs, a small platform, or maybe one of those stainless shelves/cupboards that hold accessories.

I also recommend going through a tile rather than a benchtop. A tile is much easier to replace if needed.
