  • Presso corrosion?

While cleaning my Presso earlier today, I noticed a strange white substance within the cylinder (between the plastic and metal). Any ideas as to what this is might be? and how to remove it?

It has only been used 1-2 times daily for around 4 months and gets cleaned regularly...  :-[

    Thanks

Obvious question but what do you use to clean it with?

My understanding is that the body is Aluminium so it wont respond well to some cleaners. It wont show up on the polished exterior but the machined surfaces will trap some moisture and chemical residue unless rinsed and dryed properly.

I use hot water and a soft cloth.

In that case all you have is Aluminium Oxide build up, most likely caused by trapped moisture. Grab some Aluminium Frypan cleaner (check it is for Aluminium !!!) and follow the instructions. Either that or leave it alone aluminium in its natural state develops an oxide layer which prevents further oxidisation.

Apart from that leave it stripped for a few hours after cleaning to make sure it is thoroughly dry.
