    Re: Cona frustrations

Ok so now Ive discovered the glass rod works well with a grind just a little coarser than for espresso, and NOT the very coarse grind I was using before. I just assumed that if it was clogging up, the grind was too fine...
There must be some dusty stuff getting into the grind when I was doing the coarse grind which was clogging the filter... if that makes sense.

    weird but solved!

i find that the longer u brew a siphon and the hotter the upper chamber becomes, the narder it is for the water to come back down.

Have you tried sieving the fines out from the ground coffee?

    Cheers,

    Re: Cona frustrations

Havent had a problem with my Cona, I use a grind of about 14 on my EM0480 with espresso being set at around 9 to 10.

It should suck the water back through via vacuum effect - remove from any hotplate or ring burning support to a cool area to help speed this process or it WILL take a long time.

You should find the grounds fairly dry; if you lift the rod and find they stick to it a bit then youre doing ok.

    Cheers - boingk

You can use a cloth filter in your syphon. I found the glass filters just necessitated too coarse a grind for my liking.

The spring metal/cloth filters we sell can be made to fit most syphons. For larger syphons you can stretch the spring to make it fit.

Hehehe, I feel your pain. My Cona makes me very nervous, I usually hide around the corner whilst its on the draw down. :-[

FWIW, Ive found circular stirring before the draw down makes the clog factor worse - so I just kinda mash the crust up a bit with the paddle, rather than stirring it. Not sure if thats much help. :

    Cona frustrations

    Hi All
Just wondering if anyone can give me any tips on using a glass rod filter in a Cona syphon? Im grinding as coarse as my Sunbeam emo480 will allow and still the coffee is getting stuck in the top chamber after I remove the heat...Can only assume its getting clogged?

Working...
