  • Plungers - What are the best?

Does anyone have advice on the best plunger you can get and where to buy from?

Is there anything better than Bodum?

    Thanks!

If you can get by with one cup at a time., I recommend the Aerobie Aeropress over a presspot. While they produce similar results, the press pot generally allows to great an amount of fines in the cup which is nasty if you forget and take that last sip. You also need to transfer the coffee from the press pot into another vessel when the brew time is done since the grounds just sit in the coffee otherwise.

On the other hand, you can brew a full presspot and transfer it to a thermos bottle through a filter and the press pot does make a nice cup that way.

Bodums are nice because replacement glass carafes are generally available. And if you was dishes with the same level of care as my wife, youll need replacements sooner or later..

Ill put a vote in for drip filters, such as the Hario V60. Incredibly clean cup, easy to use, easy to clean.

If its plunger then Aeropress from sponsors.
If you want to try something different then single filter cone or the new Cleaver Coffee Dripper.
To my liking all these methods are alot nice than a traditional muddy plunger. That said some people love plunger, each to their own.

My vote goes to the Aeropress as well.
We have plungers at home but never use them.
I have a great espresso machine but after trying a long black made with the Aeropress my wife insists all her coffee is now made this way.

Have you tried an Aeropress filter under a one cup Bodum presspot filter, cuts down the fines if you are having only one cup.

              Im with TG...

Its been so long since we last used our Plungers, Im trying think of some other use for them. I think our Syphon is to blame for this (thank you benefactor ^), it makes such a tasty and moreish brew... 8-)

The AeroPress is a beaut little gadget, makes a great cup, quick to use and simplicity itself to clean. Great for those occasions when I just cant be bothered firing up the DJE or for when guests are just dropping in for a quick chat and the machine isnt turned on already. Very, very handy....

              Mal.

Re: Plungers - What are the best?

                Hi

I may be wrong but I think for French Press type plungers with a silvery metal top and a glass container its either a Bodum or a Bodum. They own the patent. Starbucks was sued in 2007 for selling an "Anniverary" coffee plunger similar to a Bodum one they had been seeling and also Salon & Emporium in 2009. Any other manufacturers with a similar design would be paying royalties so its unlikely there will be many options.

The above is from memory and Googling.

Anyhow a press is a press is a press when it comes to Budum or their ilk. All have a fine metal mesh and I have two Bodums (4 cup 2 cup) and both are made well, come apart easy for cleaning and are excellent.

                Mike

Bodum are good. I like the Shin.

I also have a few Hario Cafepresso. These are great.

Its mostly Bodum for  plungers but there are others around. Theres one called SmartCafe, basically an insulated cup with a plunger insert. My wife used this for work quite a bit -- she preferred the Aeropress, but  that was inconvenient where she worked.
Another Bodum that we have is one called Columbia -- this is metal with a double wall body, we used to use it for camping in pre-Aeropress days.

Thanks All. The aeropress sounds good but the plunger works well for me as a quick way to brew 2 coffees at work.

For my $0.02 I have had an Avanti twin walled S/Steel one for over 10 years (currently not in use). Great plunger to wall fit and in a work application indistrucable (no glass). Glass ones have been and gone over that time but the Avanti has been bashed around the bush camping as well.

Also see about maybe a second hand Zass Grinder as they grind course better than the Kyocera IMHO.
