Re: Mocha pot supprise
there are some Crema espresso maniacs out there who will tell you that Moka pots are useless- and that stove top coffee is always burnt bitter muck... they do a great disservice in so doing if you ask me. It is crema snobbery at its worst. These types also deny that a stovetop can produce crema at all.... and perhaps in their hands it cannot. I pity them...
The Moka has its place- and stovetop brews can be very fine indeed- with good beans and grinding- just as espresso machines can produce bitter muck with bad beans and grinding.

Re: Mocha pot supprise
Oh good, I got some of that in the post
I used some of the blend I had left of Brazil 50%, PNG wangi 25%, 20% eth Harra and 5% robusta.
It worked well
Waiting for delivery, Friday is roast day :P

Re: Mocha pot supprise
Ditto! I was "on the road" not too long ago myself and took my stove top away with me and had a cupple of cracker coffees from it. The Peru Ceja de Selva Estate makes an outstanding stove top coffee IMHO. Still trying to perfect it as an espresso... but thats another story altogether.
Stove top / Mocha pot... drag it out from the back of the cupboard and give it a go!

Re: Mocha pot supprise
Agree totally, only use mine when I am on the road and am pretty impressed by what I can get out of it. Find my usual espresso roast isnt nearly as good as some of my home roasted stuff. James hoffmann has a really good video on moka pots if anyone is looking for some tips.

Mocha pot supprise
For the last two mornings have had the espresso machine out of order waiting for a groupe head seal to arrive. Dragged out the old stove top mocha pot for our morning hit.
Not having uesd it since before I started roasting my own beans, I wasnt expecting much from it. I still used the steam on the espresso machine for the milk. The wife and I noticed the difference but cant say it was a bad difference. We really enjoyed it and like our espresso were dissapointed that we didnt have bigger cups AKA soup bowls.
Fresh coffee and half decent grinder really do make the difference no matter how you brew.
