If you are having problems getting the cloth ones from Single Origin for the Kono then drop Jack at Sorrentina a line his Bellinas fit mine nicely. Not sure either but I think Di Bartoli may  be able to help in Sydney as they were reselling the Bellina range too but might need to order the cloth assembly.

    Have fun with your toy

Wow thanks for the responses, you guys rock.

I tested the thermometer and you were all spot on. It was off. I should have suspected it as I was getting a good extraction. I had no idea you could calibrate those things. Anyway Ive decided Im getting a digital one anyway.

beanflying mine came with paper filters although the place I got it from said they will be getting cloth filters soon. Sorry Im not sure if Im allowed to name non-sponsor stores here? Kono have a distributor in aus now.

    Thanks again!

    Danny

    Hi Danny
Check your thermometer by putting it in a small saucepan of boiling water to check its accuracy. Not sure what type of thermometer you are using but some of the dial types can be adjusted / calibrated by rotating the head while holding the nut on the back. I use a Syphon and have checked the temperature every now and then and have been amazed at how the temperature seems to be within range every time. When the water has risen to the top I turn the burner down very low just keeping the water on simmer which keeps the water in the top section for the duration of the brewing time, I then remove the burner. Good luck

Re: Syphon help: Getting to 91 deg

    Hi Danny,

I have a few Konos (3-4 cup) and using a digital meter I can fairly easily adjust the temp from 91-93+ depending on how hard I push the burner during the rise so like Bassway I would suspect your thermometer may be out.

Also unlike some I add my ground coffee before the water rises, tried both ways and I just prefer it simple (bit like me)

Out of interest did yours come with the paper type filters or cloth ones?

How are you measuring the temperature?

Your meter could be out by 10% and is measuring low.

Syphon help: Getting to 91 deg

    Hi Everyone,

Ive been lurking here in guest mode a while and learning lots!

I do have an issue with the syphon process. I recently purchased a Kono 3-cup Syphon and a butane burner. All the literature Ive read has said I must get to 91-92deg in the top chamber before throwing in the grinds. However no matter how much I turn up the heat Im not able to get over 85 deg.

    Any tips?

    Cheers
    Danny
