Hello everyone. I would like to introduce the Rossa Hand Espresso. It has been around for a while now, but its partner the Rosco Hand Grinder has just been released. Further information can be found at http://www.portaspresso.com/
It was originally designed for portability, but I can assure everyone that it offers much more than that. In the past 6 months or so, I have been focusing on pressure profiling with the device, and wow, I wish I had discovered that technique sooner! I know many people think that pressure profiling is just a gimmick and offers no real benefit, but I know for a fact that that is not the case. I profile every shot, and Ive discovered that different coffees (the ones Ive tried so far anyway) require different profiles to produce their best results. In my opinion, not being able to profile is like driving a car that is stuck in one gear, and Im sure that most good espresso machines will have some form of profiling capability in the future.
I intend to post further information and details about my profiling experimentation, but at this point, I just want to highlight that the Rossa Hand Espresso offers a lot more than just portability; it is a very effective hand pressure profiling device.
Anyway, feel free to ask questions, and I hope to hear from others who have also experimented with profiling. I think there is much to learn.
The following link will take you to the You-tube video which shows the Rossas basic operation. You probably cant tell, but this shot was profiled. The pre-infusion and pressure build-up was timed to suit the coffee used, and the pressure was reduced just after half way through extraction. I tried to explain what I was doing during the shot, but the words got a bit muddled because I was focusing on the pressure as opposed to what I was saying.
