Handpresso - New Gizmo

Hey out there I also have a handpresso (I bought mine in Japan while doing a cycle trip around there and the pod version was the only one avalable at that time ) any way I have blown both of the silicon seals on mine after a short time and I'm buggered if I can find replacements for it, so I thought if any one is going to know where I can get new seals it would be here. Also as all the instructions that came with it where in Japanese if any one has any hints to prolonging the life of the seals would be much appreciated. I have a massive week of all night shifts coming up and a half decent coffee makes a huge difference at 3 in the morning

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
Ive had my Handpresso Domepod (ground coffee version) for 18 months now. Just like Silvia its finicky with grind dose and tamp but with an old Zass and a homemade dosing tube and tamper it makes a very passable espresso when travelling. Sadly, I cant seem to replicate the results with the Kyocera I bought to partner with it. As I said, it is finicky, I have a friend who was ready to throw his Handpresso in the bin as a bad joke, but with a bit of encouragement and coaching he is now very happy with his results as well.
Easy it is not, but thats what Ive found with all methods of making good coffee.
There are some demonstration videos of the handpresso around that are so appalling Im glad I didnt see them before I bought mine or I never would have. Persistance and a good grinder will give good results but dont expect it to make up for a bad grind/dose/tamp. If you want easy (and dont mind stale coffee) maybe try the ESE pod version.

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
Hi I have a handpresso Wild my model takes ground coffee, I love it!!!...I bought mine in a coffe shop in Taree
I find that it works well at the grind setting that my ECM Giotto is happy with, the only thing i would like to see is a tamp for the small baskets
I have 2 travel packs and grind and tamp 6 shots b4 I leave home
I love that I can make a great flat white when I am on the road (in the motel room at breakky) I also carry a Brevvile BMF600 Milk cafe, I just set it to 65 deg and away she goes
oh yeh I click on the kettle to boil the water too, I find preheating the tank also helps so spash in some hot water to heat then empty then fill and extract
I get a better result than most motels can offer in the morning
I have taken it on the beach on an overnight camping trip, not bad but lots of work to get the water to the boil then get the milk right over a flame.......but is quite an achievement
once it is done
;D

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
Whats it like compared to an Areopress? Ive had the end result of an Areopress
But not the handpresso. Though considering the aeropress is $50 delivered the handpresso would have to be a major step up for me to consider it. Might have to try and find someone who owns one!

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
The replacement is working ok, but feels not quite right, the pump action feels different each time. Im hoping this doesnt matter, i.e. that it wont break down again. I did get decent espressos from it on last weeks camping trip.

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
Seeing as mypressi is broken, were looking at buying one of these. Anyone else had any problems?Originally posted by 79626C7F160 link=1216283760/27#27 date=1285686760I bought a "Handpresso Wild" for camping/traveling. I use my usual grinder at usual kinds of settings. Well, it makes great little espressos, really truly impressive--when it works. The first handpresso gizmo broke down, I got it replaced, and now the second one isnt pumping correctly and is being looked at by the company rep next week.
Well??What happened?

Re: Handpresso - New Gizmo
Hmm, we sell the handpresso, and we just use fresh ground coffee with it. No pods. I think its the handpresso wild version.

What does that tell you about Choice?
I think it was to hard for the testers to use
Just not enough press button convenience :

mod edit- commercial website removed in line with site posting policy
But for anyone who insists on being a guinea pig with money to burn, both the Wild ESE and Wild Domepod versions are available in Australia from at least the following place for AU$199 each or a whopping $349 for the picnic-kit of the ESE version (i.e. approx. a 30% markup over the European prices):
