Re: La Sorrentina Atomic Users
Santa excelled herself this Christmas and Ive now got one of these beautiful machines. I was very pleased to see this thread when searching for LS and as well as saying thank you to previous contributors (whove saved me quite a lot of learning-time), here are my own experiences.
I live in Melbourne and just around the corner from Brother Baba Budan. They knew the type of machine and were very helpful, grinding me a bag of their espresso blend (number 4 on their grinder) and I am VERY happy with the results!
I slightly overfilled the basket and tamped firmly (about half way between gravity and teeth gritting pressures) using the small end of a 49/55mm Avanti tamper ($8-ish). I filled the machine out of the kettle and gave it the full blast of a small (55mm) gas ring. This kept the flame well on the underside but kept the show moving along.
As soon as it started spluttering I took it off the heat. As it stopped bubbling I replaced the jug with a small metal cup (so Id have less to clean).
Served black, even Santa (not a regular black coffee drinker) was impressed.
I will probably keep experimenting with their grinds, but, by golly, Im bordering on evangelical.
