    Re: Cleaning a cloth filter

I wash mine in the dishes (at the start when the water is very hot and clean) and then leave them in a glass of water for a few hours to rinse- and then air dry them). It really helps if you clean them right after use, rather than letting sit in the grounds for hours. Occasionally I throw them in the washing machine.

Finally- I periodically boil them in the syphon doing a water only brew.

Then I throw them away... when they start to look old :-/. I will be adding some larger packs of 10 Akira filters to the website soon.

p.s. for what it is worth I dont like using the filters when they are wet. I find that the water can draw up a lot slower- and the same for the drawback. I think they become swollen when wet. Like bean I think it is a good idea to break them in with a sterilising water only brew This also seems to temper them so that on the next use the water draws up faster.

Just an FYI that it looks like Cafetto are repackaging their home product range under the name Cino Cleano which can be bought through the web-site http://www.cinocleano.com.au/

Talked to a very nice and helpful lady at Cafetto that consulted with their chemist who recommended the Expresso Machine Backflush Cleaning powder rather then the cleaning liquid I was considering for cleaning cloth filters.

Never tried the Home version, I just use the Cafe version Espresso Clean which is a powder rather than a liquid. Both should breakdown the coffee oils so depending on your espresso machine type buy to suit.

Would that be the Cafetto Espresso Clean @home that I want to use? Will have a hunt around where to buy it tomorrow (probably give them a call).

    Thanks.

    Re: Cleaning a cloth filter

Funky coffee is not cool :P Cafetto on the cloth filters works a treat, follow that up with a couple of good hot water rinses. I also run a load of water through the Syphon with a new/cleaned filter before the first brew.

Not sure about the water storage thing I rinse my filter that is in use and leave it on the draining rack to air dry. Toshi at St Ali and others certainly do srore their spare filters in water in the fridge.

    Cleaning a cloth filter

    Hi, all.

I recently got a coffee syphon that has a cloth filter mounting on a metal disc. I give it a good rinse after each use, and run it through the dishwasher regularly, but Im starting to get a bit of a "funny taste" and thinking the filter needs a more extensive clean.

Any pointers on how to (deep) clean your cloth filter?

Ive also seen people write that they store the filter in a glass of water in the fridge between uses. This a good idea?

    Thanks.

    E.
