    Re: Coava product discussion thread

I believe Coava are working on an Australian distributor, so hopefully something will be available here pretty soon, to cut out US shipping costs

Ben S is right - the response I got from Coava is that theyre working to get an Aussie distributor and that distributor will be in touch.

If the potential distributor is a CoffeeSnobs sponsor, then hopefully were looking at $20 or so delivered.

          some feedback on the K-ONE:

So Ive been using it for about a month now and some thing Ive noticed is that you cannot expect the same results as the paper. One of the major things about the Chemex is the paper and how that extracts. With the K-ONE the Chemex is only the vessel to catch the brew. You get a lot of extraction sideways unlike the paper. Not a bag thing, but closer to a V60 cone. Yes, you have sediment at the bottom of the Chemex, but it doesnt worry me as much as it upsets some. Thats what the Chemex is for, beautiful for decanting.

It is finicky with pouring technique, in that you have to be accurate. Hit the sides with your pour and itll channel and under extract. Also over filling will have the same result of under extraction.

I put it side by side a goldmesh filter and got similar cups profiles. Nothing scientific, and didnt run it through the Extract MOJO (yet), but flavours and body were similar. That was with the same brew ratios, and grind size.

Is it worth the price tag? Not for me to say, but Im glad I got mine sent to me for free Itd be good as a gift, even a gift-to-self, if you need a reason to justify.

So I like and am glad the K-ONE is part of my toy collection, but I like paper too

oh and also whacked it into the the V60. No noticeable difference, it still extracts the same way.

Yeah... I got an email from coavacoffee about the same - so I must have signed up for something but I cant remember doing it!
(I probably just needed some more coffee at the time!)

Disks are now available in Aus! You will have to google, as a non-sponsor

been playing with one as well, and have to say, I am loving the inverted brewing method with the disk. Similar a french press type coffee, but very little sediment

                    Hi All,

Im about to order an Aeropress and Kyocera grinder and Ive seen this disc that replaces the paper filters. Has anyone used this - I cant find anything on previous threads about its use. My concern is sediment that Im guessing the paper filters would stop, or would it be no different to a stove top machine?

                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

                      Hi Mark,

I have just revisited the AeroPress. The incentive was a freebie Coava DISK which I received. Punchline is that the result in the cup has been enough for me to finally add AeroPress to our range and we will supply each one with a DISK.

You do see a little debris in the base of the cup when used with the Kyocera- which is my travel setup, but in my opinion, removing the paper from the equation makes for a cleaner flavour profile. A tiny bit of goop is neither here nor there for me- you dont have to drink it

Our AeroPress stock will be a little more exxy than that of some other outlets, because each one will ship with a Coava in addition to the standard filters.

I expect they should be in our e-shop by Monday.

                      Hope that helps...

                      Chris

                        Re: Coava product discussion thread

Yeah the Disk has been discussed here (maybe search for disk instead of disc as in your topic/subject header) and I agree with Chris on it.
I decant my aeropress disk brew into a small jug and then gently pour into a cup to avoid the fines.
It quickly brings the coffee down to a nice drinkable temperature, too.

Thanks for the feedback, sounds like a no-brainer. Chris will you be stocking the kyocera grinders too?

I picked up a Coava Disk and used it for a week when down the coast on holidays.

I think it is a vast improvement over the papers - the coffee definitely has more body. Its a little trickier to clean but overall I think its worth it.

I used some Guatemala Huehuetenango with it and the coffee that it produced was incredibly sweet. 8-)

Coava have also brought out a second version of the DISK with smaller holes, which should give a different cup profile as well.

Thats the plan Mark. We will have a hand grinder, just unsure as to which one.
