Re: Coava product discussion thread
Well I have received my disk, and so far with only a couple of brews, each with a small amount of milk, I like the taste improvement, seems to have better body compared to the paper filters, tending towards what is good about a plunger, but a bit cleaner than a plunger.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
Wondering has anyone tried one of the newer disks with the smaller holes yet?, and can give an opinion on the taste compared to the paper filters?Originally posted by 13343F0E02510 link=1289623251/28#28 date=1295564516Coava have also brought out a second version of the DISK with smaller holes, which should give a different cup profile as well.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
Just for interest a few pics of some options for using the Kone. I havent tried the Grindripper but I think it might be worth a go if your desperate. The Hario 3 cup works fine on smaller bean loads and water quantities. Still need more practice on the Chemex sized quantities but getting there.
Both the larger brewers are woodneck versions, just removed for the pics.
Generally I reckon it is a great bit of kit for commercial use and for those that like a little more body in the cup than paper (yuck) gives. Less work to keep clean over the Neru sock Hario type cloth filters too.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
The Kone fits into any 6,8 or 10 cup chemex (woodneck or pitcher). It will fit into a CCD but as the CCD has a closed bottom, it does not balance that well. Another option is the larger Hario V60.Originally posted by 6D767F6E7B6D7677786A7B6C1E0 link=1289623251/34#34 date=1298463163In my quest to find a different coffee maker Im looking at the Kone and a Chemex, what Im after though is the glass handled Chemex with the Kone. Does anyone in Australia carry these or only the ones that Di Bella have?
If the only choice is the Di Bella one does anyone know if the Kone fits into this?
...or does anyone know if the Kone will fit into the CCD?
Have you checked Veneziano? I think they used to have the Chemexs.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
I think I have the original with the bigger holes - the thinner one sounds like it gives a result similar to the original Aeropress paper filters.Originally posted by 16313A0B07540 link=1289623251/28#28 date=1295564516Coava have also brought out a second version of the DISK with smaller holes, which should give a different cup profile as well.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
I picked up a Coava Disk and used it for a week when down the coast on holidays.
I think it is a vast improvement over the papers - the coffee definitely has more body. Its a little trickier to clean but overall I think its worth it.
I used some Guatemala Huehuetenango with it and the coffee that it produced was incredibly sweet. 8-)
Sniff

Re: Coava product discussion thread
Yeah the Disk has been discussed here (maybe search for disk instead of disc as in your topic/subject header) and I agree with Chris on it.
I decant my aeropress disk brew into a small jug and then gently pour into a cup to avoid the fines.
It quickly brings the coffee down to a nice drinkable temperature, too.

Re: Coava product discussion thread
Hi Mark,Originally posted by 476A676764050 link=1295505267/0#0 date=1295505267Hi All,
Im about to order an Aeropress and Kyocera grinder and Ive seen this disc that replaces the paper filters. Has anyone used this - I cant find anything on previous threads about its use. My concern is sediment that Im guessing the paper filters would stop, or would it be no different to a stove top machine?
Cheers,
Mark.
I have just revisited the AeroPress. The incentive was a freebie Coava DISK which I received. Punchline is that the result in the cup has been enough for me to finally add AeroPress to our range and we will supply each one with a DISK.
You do see a little debris in the base of the cup when used with the Kyocera- which is my travel setup, but in my opinion, removing the paper from the equation makes for a cleaner flavour profile. A tiny bit of goop is neither here nor there for me- you dont have to drink it
Our AeroPress stock will be a little more exxy than that of some other outlets, because each one will ship with a Coava in addition to the standard filters.
I expect they should be in our e-shop by Monday.
Hope that helps...
Chris
