Syphon vs EMO480

Up to this point I've just been dialing my Mazzer SJ between Espresso and Syphon grind, but it's becoming mildly irritating (#firstworldproblems).

I've been doing it this way with my Mazzer for many years now and don't find it particularly inconvenient or annoying at all really. It's very quick and simple to do with the Mazzer's adjustment arrangement and ditto for pretty well any stepped adjustment grinder out there. Just take note where the espresso setting is, adjust coarser for the Syphon and then set it back to where it was (with the grinder still running). Probably about three seconds work...

I know we're all different but I'd much rather enjoy the quality results with the Mazzer than going backwards to something like the SB unit - Think I can afford the three seconds of time it takes and then take the time to thoroughly enjoy the resulting brew(s)...

The other thing that needs to be taken into account when considering an 'appliance' type grinder, is that it will not last anywhere near as long as the Mazzer, not even close to be honest, and will have to replaced not that far down the track.

depending on how much you could source a EM0480 for, it could be worth looking at a decent hand grinder

there is the hario, porlex, kyocera, and definitely worth considering the OE Lido/Pharos

The grind quality will be the trade off against the convenience.
You ultimately must decide if it's acceptable.

I got a Syphon in my haul from Christmas last year.

I was considering picking up an EMO480 to use as a dedicated Syphon grinder, just wondering what the board's thoughts on that are as to whether that's "good enough" for Syphon.
