Specifically I am talking about the cheapies you can get on the net. Lately I've been seeing some of these and for the price it was tempting, so I bought one in the name of science.

It came in a box covered in Chinese writing with the occassional English "Water Drip Coffee" and "delicate coffee taste te smell" (sic)
Unboxing revealed every glass wrapped in plastic and paper in individual cardboard boxes. The gauge of the cardboard boxes were heftier than the glass pieces themselves which were somewhat lighter than expected. Each piece had english printing "Gater Heat proof glass" but I'm not going to test that out. The stand itself has some reasonable weight to them essentially two stainless steel rods which you screw the chrome stainless steel base and top in place. I tested the metal with a magnet and looks like at least a 300 series as the magnet did not work on the metal. The base is not quite flat so does slightly rock if you put a finger on opposing ends, however when everything is in place doesn't seem to be an issue.
The filter glass is essentially a cup with 5 holes at the bottom, the set does come with at a guess 100 paper filter which is slightly oversized. The beaker has markings for 200ml, 400ml and 600ml. On my set the 400ml is smudged at printing. The water jar fits well on top and does not seem to be any danger of topling over. The dripper is quite hefty and seems to also be from stainless steel. Controllability of the drip is not a problem.
My system is still making it's first 400ml so can't really report on the taste but the drip and the filtration system all works so really don't doubt the in the cup result. Anyone else got one of these? Considering I made one from lab glass for around the same price I think this purpose made one is really not bad. A little rough compared to the $300 ++ but you pay for what you get. The plus is that you are not in danger of police raids (See my old posts on home made cold drip)
