I am afraid I am not yet in the habit of measuring as of yet. I tamped to within 2 mm or so from the top.

It’ll be 10g max for the dose unless you have the bigger basket that comes with the barista kit. Yield depends on the user and the coffee obviously so I couldn’t speak for others.

My understanding too. 10g of ground in equates to about 20g out at the standard 2:1 ratio?. I don't know what size the shot glasses pictured are but I am assuming they are not 450ml behemoths and are more likely 60-80ml? that espresso pull looks like a lot of extraction from a humble 10g. Also not sure about the cold brew:
HappyDaisy did you force cold water through ground beans as per a normal espresso pull or did you use some sort of longer time based drip arrangement using the nanopress?

I used the same process for both shots. The shot glass is closer to 30 ml. For the second shot I was pressed for time due to an 18 month old demanding 'up', so I didn't get to tamp as hard.

I wouldnt be using the nanopress for cold brew thattaway HappyD - I use the slow steep method of immersing 200gish of fresh coarse ground in 1l of cold water in the fridge for 12 hours - yummo. Forcing cold water thru fresh ground in a portafilter will not achieve anywhere near the same taste results - but if that is what you like - heh - although I can see an option for using the nanopress in a cold drip set up - again cold dripping over a reasonable time period.

By "up" did the toddler actually mean "increase your dose" - everyone is a expert nowadays :-). In which case you would need the Barista kit.

Yep, I've done cold brew in a French press like that previously. Left it overnight in the fridge. Was curious to see how the nanopresso would handle it. My wife still prefers her 'Nitro' cold brew from the specialty shops around Canberra so I haven't tried to improve my process lately.

I'm wanting to 'depressurise' the nanopresso as described by Hugo, but am a little unclear on where in the apparatus the pin I need to remove is.

Does anyone have pictures, or a guide for doing so?

The nozzle pushes out of the main body of the nozzle holder contra flow direction.

Thanks. And then I just remove the spring and put it all back together?

I've left the spring out. It doesn't seem to do much without the silicone pressurizing widget. I suspect it will collect oil though if left in.

Yes take the spring out to depressurise.

So I just used this for the first time. I ground up 8 grams of coffee but it didn’t all fit in the portafilter. Silly i forgot to measure how much I actually put in, i will have to do next time. I pre heated and then pulled an unpressurised shot. I used the same grind setting and beans that I’m currently using on my E61 espresso machine.

I started pumping - coffee started coming out at around pump 5. It took me about 30 seconds to extract 16 grams of coffee in the cup.

I had it as an espresso. Taste was like a weaker espresso. It wasn’t as thick as the coffee out of my espresso machine. However that may be due to the smaller basket size as I suspect pushing the water through double the amount of coffee would make the flavour more intense.

nor bad for a first go and I will play around more next weekend

i has another go this morning. This time I managed to get all 8 grams of coffee in by filling the little cup a couple times. I also paused 1 sec between pumps. The result was probably too much pressure as extraction time for 16g was around 45sec.

I did pre heat the unit and I noticed that the first bit to come out of the unit was some left over water so I might extract th first pump into a cup next time to avoid it watering down the coffee.

Result was was a big improvement on last night. I’d like to try it again with the grind right and no early water in the cup. Pausing between pumps really helps as a pre infusion. A side by side comparison to my espresso machine showed that it’s not as rich or complex, but it’s not bad. Again that may b due to 8g basket as opposed to 18g basket. Im also drinking it as espresso which is going to show it up.

The 16g basket that comes with the "Barista Kit" is a lot more forgiving than the stock 8g - and I am getting pretty darn close to a "true" espresso shot with the 16g - not as tasty but that is probably more related to my newbie nanopress technique (still in development stage or grind rather than anything to do with the device. Hoping that a bit of slack time over the break will give me a chance to achieve some more nanopressive shots. Warming, I fill the res with hot water from the hot water tap of my espresso machine and let it sit whilst I prep. I then purge the nanopress, refill with hot water and purge again (now it is bluddy hot). First drop of extraction I waste.

Cool - im hoping for the barista kit for Christmas, but I spect that to be the case - using a single espresso basket is always harder than the double.

Ok ok so you do two heating cycles before you pull the shot?
