Pressurised baskets...I saw that, didn't truly register at the time and really don't understand why you'd want to kneecap a good device that way. Call it what they will, but its simply an attempt to 'dress up' coffee that isn't fit for good espresso..
Had my Flair over a year now, very happy with the espresso it makes using good beans and a decent hand grinder.
Honestly, if you want to use stale coffee, get a pod machine.

Once you include postage it costs more than a regular flair purchased locally

The pressurised basket has now been reborn as a "flow control portafilter". Has all that flow control discussion on Decent been subverted?

A pressurised basket basically blocks the flow of water until certain pressure builds up, then releases it. A normal basket relies on the coffee itself to be fine enough to create this pressure against the water.

Pressurised baskets are usually used in entry level appliances to make it look like there is good crema in the shot, but won’t actually do anything to improve the taste of the espresso. But they are more forgiving of pre-ground or coarsely ground coffee.

So if you’ve got a half decent grinder, there’s no reason to want a pressurised basket.

Is someone able to explain what the difference between the Neo with the pressurised basket and the others with standard basket is in terms of making espresso?
If I have a suitable grinder for espresso, is it a waste to go with the Neo with the pressurised basket?

They have said on Instagram that the Neo is directly compatible with the Classic/Signature brew head, and with the PRO2 if you purchase a complete standard brew head and use their adapter ring.

Also, the travel case is not included with the Neo but is available as a travel set option on Kickstarter.

Strange indeed. By regulating the pressure in a standard Flair basket I am already able to make good coffee without a high end grinder (fresh beans of course). Admittedly haven't tried with store bought pre-ground (stale) beans. But I would have thought the pressurised basket may help to make it look like there's some crema, but wouldn't influence taste much.

started a topic Flair Neo- a Flair with a pressurised basket

Flair Neo- a Flair with a pressurised basket

Just got an ad that Flair will be launching a new product via Kickstarter. Flair Neo, a flair with a pressurised basket, advertises as suitable to make real espresso without a high end grinder.

Price will be us$120 or $80 on Kickstarter.

It’s a little hard to figure out who this is for. I do see it would be good for students or people on limited budgets who want espresso, and I’m sure it’s got a good upgrade path to add a standard basket. It would be interesting to compare it against cheap pressurised machines, I think it would probably come up pretty well.
