Oh dropped into a service agent and he said a similar thing and that the gauge should be at where its optimal doing that guage cal check.

        Hey,

I was at the Perth one too. With my wife as well. (got two machines, hence two places on the course.)

We get the beans from the place they recommended, their website is easy, and it always comes quickly.

I found the 6910s there to be a bit more "loose" than mine. Their obviously a bit older and get used a fair bit more too.

Try have your hopper half full at least! for sure! Ive discovered this makes a huge difference to the grind.

Dont worry if you feel like your grinder is set really low, mine is usually set around 7-10 depending on my beans (super fresh, 3 day old roast or so). all these grinders are different.

I grind into the basket, tap it on the bench, grind, tap, grind then sweep the mound of grind across the top of the basket back and forward to get an even and just slightly domed top. Im using the single shot basket most of the time.

Then I TAMP with a firm tamp, very little tap on the side then tamp. Then i blow the loose grinds away from the basket into my waste bucket, shove the handle in the machine and extract.

As already mentioned dont use that extraction gauge as the absolute rule of good brewing. Just watch your extraction... practice practice! Ive only been doing this for a couple of months myself, and Im still trying to get excellent extractions (happens sometimes).

Also read the thread on the EM0480 in the grinder section.
