Nope - as long as theres some pressure buildup the water/cleaner solution will be backflushed when the solenoid opens. In theory youd expect everything to be over-engineered so that it can cope with the machine choking, but in practise it isnt and if you repeatedly drive it into the red, sooner or later something will give.

I just run the pre programmed back flush routine that is already programmed into the machine. First few times it seems to just fill the PF, then the next few times, it redlines for 2 secs or so, then releases and then it finishes with a few more pulses that seem to run mostly straight through.

At the end of the routine, the cafetto is gone from the PF and there is soapy water in the drip tray (as well as in the container that I put under the PF)

    IMHO
Most people teaching the coffee classes are teachers or so called baristas to some degree, (may even be a qualified experienced barista) (some have no idea) others do) but are NOT Technical

some have little or no understanding of how a coffee machine works (let alone know how to make a good espresso) and most have trouble changing from one machine to another

yes this may seem a bit harsh

    but it is reality

you dont need any qualifications to teach coffee making

locally we have person who teaches barista teqniques
who has very little experience or understanding
he contracts to the training organisation so he doesnt need hios TAA

a tafe teacher you teaches coffee, hasnt worked in the industry for 12 years, still uses the info she started with, and burns the crap out of the milk

this is why so many places make crap coffee, because they are being taught by people who dont know, and in most cases dont care

Fix: I use the rubber disk supplied by SB to backflush my machine and ive been taught by the sunbeam class to backflush the machine just be4 the red zone~~
Hmmm~~things are getting Very very strange!

Anyway, Ill take your advice~~Cos i want to make sure there is nth wrong with other things be4 i change the collar. I mean there is no pt of changing a new collar and ill do the same thing again. Generally speaking, Im happy with my em6910~~hehe.

The problem seems to be fixed by not washing the PF and the basket with cafetto.Everytime when i wash them with Cafetto, it starts to leak in the next day. But if i wash them with detergent, it stops leaking. Hmmmmmm~~~strange.
I reckon my problem is not locking the PF tight enough. The last 2 days i locked the PF tighter and it stops leaking. However, it leaks when backflush. Maybe ure right Fix, i shouldnt use that much pressure to blackflush. But one question, How come it doesnt leak when the pressure are at the end of the dark brown zone when brewing but it leaks when backflushing if the pressure are at the same zone?

how far round is your pf going in?
    Around 4 to 5 oclock.

I left about 5mm in the basket now (it doesnt leak if i left 5mm). However, anything more than that, it starts to leak. Also, it leaks when i back flush the machine if the pressure gauage goes pass 3 oclock.
if it is going that far, sounds like it needs a new collar

    coffee level 3-5 mm

you shouldnt be backflushing it to that pressure

    NO more than 1 oclock

the machine is not designed to be run at that pressure

this machine is not designed to be backflushed with a blind filter
it comes with the cleaning disc for a reason

dont blame the Sunbeam when it fails

If its outside warranty then its a tad expensive.

I managed to see the invoice the agent was charging Sunbeam for my repair.
From memory the collar itself was only about $30 but the labour was another $70.
So Id say a minimum of $100.

fix (http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=fix) may be able to confirm if this is about the right price.

    Re: em6910 leaking

I had leaking after a new seal and the cause was a worn collar.
A seal spacer fixed it temporarily until the collar was replaced.

sugilun-Tony, I have the 6910 and if I leave 5 mm from the top of the filter basket to the coffee I get a very wet puck.I dont know why your new seal is leaking it may not be seated properly.

    easy fix

    dont up dose

    ;D ;D ;D

how far round is your pf going in
new blue seals are softer than the earlier ones
    may need a spacer

when you say updose, how high in the filter basket are you filling too

the pf must be allowed to slide in to about the S in secure, before any tension is felt
if you fill above 3mm in the basket, then it is tooo high, in most em6900/6910
