  • VBM, Bezzera or something else!

sort of continuing the discussion on from here.... http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1229109332

i am now making a final decision between the Vibiemme Domobar Piccolo (Levetta), and the Bezzera BZ02S/BZ99S (same internals i believe), and anything else that can be had for around $1200.

i was set on the VBM until reading a little more about the Bezzera BZ02S - the lack of the E-61 group seems to be offset by the HX design and therefore quicker time to ready to brew.

i have a La San Marco SM-90A grinder.

i make mainly espresso, with the odd cappuccino for wife and/or friends.

    contributions gratefully received!

The Bezzeras would be my choice because they are a HX machine and light commercial build quality
Equally happy to use at home or office. They will purr all day long

But the VBM has more bling

Bling is the least important criteria, i use a dirty old bialetti brikka currently!

I just want a machine that will make the best possible espresso with the least effort in the available price range, if thats the Bezzera then thats the one for me!

A HX machine is just easier to use all round

You can make coffee and steam milk at the same time
Make hot drinks e.g soup, tea, hot chocolate by utilizing the hot water tap

Thats why I skipped over the Silvia and the VBM levetta and went with the Bezzera HX machine

You will as I have, use it to its full potential and a HX machine will make a better coffee maker out of you

Is the Bezzera volumetric? If you are making espresso only, or only a couple of milk drinks at a time, the VBM might give you more control being fully manual....If youre worried about warm-up time you can always put a timer on the switch.

The choice to use it as a Volumetric or as a straight Semi-Auto would be up to the owner surely. You dont need to use the Auto features if thats not your preference but lots of commercial machine owners here enjoy the convenience of using the various Auto features for basic tasks, such as flushing the Group, Back-flushing, etc.

Nothing wrong with making the machine do what you want, rather than the other way around....

            Mal.

No, I got it from the hardware for sale threads, "Black Bull" sold it to me.
