    Hi all,

I had a reasonable poke around the forums to see if this hasnt been covered before, but couldnt find it. So apologies if it has been.

Weve got an 8 week old EM6910 that has a seemingly temperamental steam pump. Turning the nob doesnt always get the pump moving. I have a theory it keeps getting air in it but cant work out how I might stop that. I always clear the wand before and after using but often it will just stop while Im steaming the milk, which of course is driving me bananas. Sometimes a burst on the hot water will get it moving again, but it seems like hard work.

Has anyone had these dramas before and have any home remedies fixed them?

    Cheers,

    zed

Call SB ASAP... It is only 8 weeks.....

PS. It more than likely will be the micro switch in the Steam knob...

If my understanding is correct.... A few probs and one might assume that if the switch is not exactly lined up at build time... Then it can suffer some damage...

I think you might be right. If I wiggle the knob across the micro-switch it sometimes works after it crosses the click. Doesnt seem too major.

Sorry for the late reply, the forum emails must have got walloped in the anti-spamness thing.

        A simple matter to check...

1: Grip the knob in the L/H and gently squeeze and pull

2: Then using a small Phillips screwdriver undo the screw and pull out the actual molded inner knob.

Be careful and remember the way it cam off.

You will then be able to see the micro switch to the L/H side of the now open space etc.

It could be just loose / broken / or the Inner gray part you removed may not have been fitted correctly...

However one could argue that by doing this you void your warranty...

All care NO responsibility taken, for your actions..

Dont worry, Im not the blaming type ;-)

Its driving me nuts and I hear Sunbeams service is a little on the sluggish side. It has already paid for itself, so it wont matter if we have to buy another to fill the gap then sell the first one on. Thats a bit desperate, yeah? :-)

              How it paid for itself:

              1. 3 coffees per day for me, two for my lovely wife. At average price of $3.12, thats $15.60 per day. Every day. Getting on to $6k per year or almost $110/week.

              2. My lovely wife is not so lovely when she sniffs a salesman willing to prostrate themselves at the feet of a paying customer. Shes made used car salesmen cry. Big ones. We got the Sunbeam for $550

              3. We did a ROI (were such losers) on the machine. We worked out that each coffee actually costs between 47c and 60c depending on the coffee. So, we actually save $2.5 per coffee or $12.50 per day which is $87.50 per week. So it paid for itself in six weeks and 2 days. Not including the savings on babycinos for Master M.

Plus, we now have nobody to blame but ourselves for crap coffee. Still learning, but loving it, apart from the machine letting us down. I got to sleep in a bit this morning and found a disastrous attempt to make it work. The door was slammed hard on its way out...

Thanks again for your help! :-)

I took off the knob on the one at work... All was OK prior to this..

Replaced it and Presto... Not always working

Took it off, dusted with a brush and put it on again... Firmly but with TLC.

All is now OK once again

Took it in, bought another to replace it while it was gone for just over six weeks.

You were right! Microswitch was stuffed. As was the pumps, the boards and pretty much everything. So got brand new boards, pumps and switches...

I got a whole new machine from Sunbeam when the steam pump died.

Sunbeam are a lot less forgiving these days.

I predicted it and was eventually proven right.

Their pathetic excuses are the worst - nobody wants to be a service agent, blah blah blah. The fact is, it doesnt matter whats broken, the company who makes it is responsible if it breaks. They outsource it to service agents who are paid nothing to do the job so they have to do ten of them to make money so yours joins the queue.

TVs, computers, whatever - its their fault but they blame the service agents.

Isnt that in the hands of the service agent? I dont think Sunbeam can force anyone to take on contract work.

So your Sunbeam was cactus after just 8 weeks and yet you bought another one to use whilst your original one is being rebuilt. Im missing the punchline.... ;D
