Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
Ah, yes, well, Sunbeam were being jerks about it but we liked the machine. Thats the problem with things now - even if you like the product and are being terribly reasonable, the person at the other end of the phone cares not a jot for you. We also looked at the economics and worked for us to have a second one.
Plus we knew we could sell the first one and not be too far behind once we got it back all shiny.
No need for apologies, I can see why you think the logic is flawed.

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
Not criticising the machine, just your logic.
Why, if something had broken down very badly, would you want to putchase the same item again whilst the original one was broken.
You couldve got a refund for the broken machine, or just had it exchanged for a new machine.
Anyway, apologies for going OT. I hope you get your original back in good order and you continue to enjoy great coffee.

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
Yeah, okay, so you might have seen Im a noob. Just getting used to the whole idea and I had read that the machine was good for those starting out. Its also supposed to be low maintenance...which it is if it isnt broken.
We also have to remember that by the magic of the Internet, customer dissatisfaction is 90% when the real number is rather less than that. ;-)

Well that would be in a different thread...
...one of the Sylvia threads that spend more time bagging 6910s than talking about Sylvias

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
Isnt that in the hands of the service agent? I dont think Sunbeam can force anyone to take on contract work.Originally posted by 4F50475A525050425D5C4F350 link=1236404534/12#12 date=1245816684They outsource it to service agents who are paid nothing to do the job

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
Their pathetic excuses are the worst - nobody wants to be a service agent, blah blah blah. The fact is, it doesnt matter whats broken, the company who makes it is responsible if it breaks. They outsource it to service agents who are paid nothing to do the job so they have to do ten of them to make money so yours joins the queue.
TVs, computers, whatever - its their fault but they blame the service agents.

Sunbeam are a lot less forgiving these days.
I predicted it and was eventually proven right.

I got a whole new machine from Sunbeam when the steam pump died.Originally posted by 4F50475A525050425D5C4F350 link=1236404534/8#8 date=1245728350Took it in, bought another to replace it while it was gone for just over six weeks.
You were right! Microswitch was stuffed. As was the pumps, the boards and pretty much everything. So got brand new boards, pumps and switches...

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
I took off the knob on the one at work... All was OK prior to this..
Replaced it and Presto... Not always working
Took it off, dusted with a brush and put it on again... Firmly but with TLC.
All is now OK once again

Re: Steam Pump Problems EM6910 (noob)
How it paid for itself:
1. 3 coffees per day for me, two for my lovely wife. At average price of $3.12, thats $15.60 per day. Every day. Getting on to $6k per year or almost $110/week.
2. My lovely wife is not so lovely when she sniffs a salesman willing to prostrate themselves at the feet of a paying customer. Shes made used car salesmen cry. Big ones. We got the Sunbeam for $550
3. We did a ROI (were such losers) on the machine. We worked out that each coffee actually costs between 47c and 60c depending on the coffee. So, we actually save $2.5 per coffee or $12.50 per day which is $87.50 per week. So it paid for itself in six weeks and 2 days. Not including the savings on babycinos for Master M.
Plus, we now have nobody to blame but ourselves for crap coffee. Still learning, but loving it, apart from the machine letting us down. I got to sleep in a bit this morning and found a disastrous attempt to make it work. The door was slammed hard on its way out...
Thanks again for your help! :-)

Its driving me nuts and I hear Sunbeams service is a little on the sluggish side. It has already paid for itself, so it wont matter if we have to buy another to fill the gap then sell the first one on. Thats a bit desperate, yeah? :-)

Paid for its self after 8 weeks ???
WOW... How did you manage that ?
