Re: Machine maintenance & cleaning
Hi there mmm
Not sure on the specifics of this machine but the in general
descaling - will depend on the quality of water in your location and whether or not you are using a filter
backwashing - with chemical will depend on how many coffees you make each day, i generally do this once a month which equates to about 100 coffees thereabouts. You can use cafetto backwash detergent.
General cleaning should be done on a regular basis to keep the shower screen and group head/handle and portafilter clean.

Re: Machine maintenance & cleaning
thanks guys I live in Brisbane. We have one of those Brita water filters should I be using the water our of it? Its what I have been using. Each time Im finished using it I clean everything thoroughly and rinse groupheads etc.
How often should I backwash with the blind cover in the grouphead without chemicals??

Re: Machine maintenance & cleaning
Hi
Brita water should be fine, that is all i ever put through my machine.
I backflush without chemicals at the end of the day but to qualify that, i dont do any more than about 6 shots per day as a general rule and most times during the week only 2 per day.
Its not going to do any harm to get into a good routine.

Re: Machine maintenance & cleaning
When I had my Silvia is used to hot water flush daily and every Saturday morning give it a chemical backflush and a thorough clean all over. Use filtered water only. Dont forget to prime the boiler after steaming milk most important. I used to do a descale 3 times a year as Perth water isnt the best.
Good luck Im sure you will get great joy out of Silvia.
