Re: Installing a digital thermometer on a silvia
Thanks thundergod!
I tried searching cs first, but I never seem to find anything...
In case anyone who has gronked their machine reads this, any improvements on where to affix the thermocouple (from the photo on the linked thread)?
It would be cool to be able to get a more accurate idea of the actual group head temperature...

Installing a digital thermometer on a silvia
Hi All,
Ive had a Silvia for about a month now. Hooray!
Im quite happy with it, and dont really know why people say its so finicky. Obviously you have to have a good grinder and adjust it properly... (good ol Gino Rossi does well enough).
Anyways, as people readily point out, theres a bit of a temp swing, and Ive watched the youtube videos and read the sites describing Temp Surfing and ultimate solution of fitting a PIDkit.
So far, Im pretty happy with temp surfing - its not too painful and seems reasonably consistent. However I noticed on one site that a guy had a digital thermometer fitted permanently to his Silvia before he installed a PID kit. The read out seemed to neatly fit into the spot where the Rancilio badge fits on the front of the machine.
This would seem to be a great middle ground between blind temp surfing and the more expensive PID option...
Just wondering if anyone has any info on where I might buy an appropriate digital thermometer, and how I would go about installing it. Ive taken the top off the silvia (took 3 seconds), but I really have no idea where and how exactly I would attach the thermometer sensor. I live in the inner west of Sydey if anyone can recommend an actual shop that would sell the appropriate stuff.
Cheers!
