Re: Gaggia Deluxe - slightly cloudy water?
Thanks for the advice. I emailed Cafetto and they said that the restore descaler was fine for the aluminium-based Gaggias, but I guess Ill trsut your word on it.
Ill pull the machine apart when I get a chance and let you know what I find.

Re: Gaggia Deluxe - slightly cloudy water?
The very best way to clear this up (and to make sure the group valve doesnt get damaged by deposits) is to pull the boiler off the machine and clean out the interior (and the top of the group) with a brillo pad. Luckily, this is a very simple thing to do with Gaggias if you have the appropriate tools.
Otherwise, use descaler that is specified for use with aluminium (not cafetto) like the one Sunbeam sells for use with their cheap machines. It may take a few descales to clear it up completely.

Re: Gaggia Deluxe - slightly cloudy water?
Gday Alex,
From your description it sounds like precipitated Al corrosion compounds and not scale. Scale deposits tend to be a very dark colour bordering on black. Ill leave it up to other Gaggia owners to chip in with advice but I dont think its a good idea using Citric Acid in these Al Boilers, probably only create more problems.
All the best mate,
Mal.

Gaggia Deluxe - slightly cloudy water?
Hi
I just bought a second-hand Gaggia Deluxe from a fellow CSer. It had been sitting around for some months unused, so I thought I should run a few tanks of water through before pulling any shots.
What Ive found is that the water is coming out very slightly cloudy... if I collect it in a pyrex jug and leave it to settle I can see some very fine white powdery residue on the bottom. This is still the case after 3 tanks of water.
Im going to get some cafetto descaler because Ive read that Gaggias scale up a bit, but what Im wondering is whether the residue might be corroded aluminium... and if so, what I should do about it? I dont want to drink aluminium :-/
Cheers
