Re: Silvia showerscreen disturbing the puck

Oh… Engineering background….  I don’t’ know about that…plenty of dodgy Engineers around these days… Just kidding :P  Thanks… I’ve taken note of this, so when it’s time for the replacement, that would be the one.  Hopefully I don’t need it anytime soon…

Anyway I think you’re the man to ask on this one Mal, which glue can I use to stick a plastic surface under hot steamy environment?  The silver logo fell off from the steam knob, I’m not sure if super glue would damage the plastic surface, and if I use normal glue, the heat from the steam will just dissolve the glue, and it will fell out again for sure.  I wish Rancilio would have used a screw-on instead of cheap glue!!

Is this in the form of a plastic cap sort of thing or a thin laminate? Photo might help....

      Mal.

The silver part is either a plastic or some thin piece of metal (tin?) and made stick to the steam knob by glue... (i think).

          Thanks mate.... 8-)

It might sound a little inverted but I think any decent Hot Melt glue would do a good job on that for you. Brands like Bostik, etc work well and dont react with the surfaces being glued together...

          Cheers,
          Mal.

Re: Silvia showerscreen disturbing the puck

Cant find that hot glue stuff (actually I don’t know what they are LOL)... spent like half an hour at the glue section in KMART and BIGW reading all the descriptions. .. They only got Salley and the Tarsan stuff....  in the end... got the Tarzan glue, since it mentions both (HOT/PLASTIC).... Now it’s all fixed, good as new.  YEY!... (Let’s see tomorrow when I use the steamer if it will hold up).

i use that Tarzan stuff at work for anything that need glueing, just smells a bit so thats why hotglue is better.
it comes in sticks and you need a gun to apply it.

Re: Silvia showerscreen disturbing the puck

Hot glue is found in the craft section of shops.
$2 shops have the hot glue and guns cheap.
Trouble is it melts when warm so I dont think it would be any good near a coffee machine.
EDIT: Just saw the pictures and decided the glue probably wont get to warm there.

Re: Silvia showerscreen disturbing the puck

modifying the screw bolt is not an option for me at this stage..
Understandable, you could try taking the screw to your local bolt shop and see if they can supply a S/S screw with a different  head something like a cheese head or button head would be less intrusive.
The hex head is probably the right choice for Rancilio to fit, in time to come when Silvia is presented to a serviceman for repair with a screw stuck in with years of goo : it will have a nice hex head to take a socket.  This of course wouldnt apply to a CSr who would have regularly removed the showerscreen for cleaning and whose screw would not be overtight, so we can tweek things a bit.
For anyone contemplating doing the mod, you need to have a proper countersinking tool to get the angle right, and dont be to enthusiastic with the countersinking there is not a lot of meat there to work with. Also a new shower screen and water dispersion thingy coud be purchased for the mod and the originals kept untouched.

So much trouble with the hot glue…???  Well, the Tarzan is holding up pretty well… I steamed almost a litter of milk today and the logo didn’t fall off… good thing.  (was just practicing …)

The hot glue comes in rods of different sizes and you need a Hot glue gun to apply it..  Most places have them and Bunnings has plenty... My wife uses for crafts and get different glue stick for different uses...

I use for electronic apps and for locking adjustment screws and or managing vibration...
